what
Just did the 78 internally regulated alternator swap. Man once I figured out the wiring, This was a great upgrade. All I did was unplug the wiring harness off the passenger side fender from the voltage regulator. Throw the Voltage regulator away or leave it bolted on. Buy some male wire plugs that will plug into the female end of your harness plug. take two of your male plugs and connect and crimp a wire to each end. Then plug that wire into were the white with red stripe wire goes. Then connect the other end to the white wire with black stripe and your done. Easy and worth while. Quote Link to comment
izzo
I did about the same, I take a VR, cut the wires, solder, wrap in tape and hide the wires... Then toss the VR.. VR swaps are easy once you do it. Quote Link to comment
DanielC
Make sure you leave the black wire that has a lug under one of the voltage regulator bolted to the inner fender. This is one of the grounds from the cab sheet metal to the engine, and the battery. If the cab loses the ground connection, it will then use the throttle and choke cable as a ground, and melt the plastic housing on the cables, and lock them up in whatever position they are in.
