Hold it!

 

Mark the location of the distributor and unbolt and lift it out. Have someone hold the drive spindle down inside with pliers because sure as shit when the pump is lifted out there is nothing to support the spindle and it will fall out. It is a total bitch to get it back in the same location without affecting the distributor timing.

this is v good advice - can't tell how many times I've screwed it up.

To the OP, remember to prime the pump when you replace it, otherwise you will start your motor without oil pressure. Don't ask how I know this
