Hold it!

 

Mark the location of the distributor and unbolt and lift it out. Have someone hold the drive spindle down inside with pliers because sure as shit when the pump is lifted out there is nothing to support the spindle and it will fall out. It is a total bitch to get it back in the same location without affecting the distributor timing.

MIke I think he want to move it a tooth. Other thread says he can only get it to 10deg max.

UNless its a Matchbox with the wrong pedastal.

lol. I have to advance it a tooth, so all has to be redone. Just didnt want massive of oil loss. Stock 1976 setup

Have rags ready and keep the pump vertical so it doesn't loose it's prime. Might loose 1/8 cup or less. The gasket is reusable if not torn.

this is v good advice - can't tell how many times I've screwed it up.

To the OP, remember to prime the pump when you replace it, otherwise you will start your motor without oil pressure. Don't ask how I know this
