You can bet that that motor got it's oil changed regularly, with good filters and quality oil, and tuned up on time, and genuine Ford parts, and good gas.... that's what keeps 'em going. In that simulater 150K was there a simulated 'oops I forgot to check the oil' or 'I coundn't afford the ford oil filter so I used a Fram' or 'I'll do the tune up in the spring when I can afford it' or 'It was making a sound but I kept going'. Keep them full of clean oil and filters and no overheating and almost any engine will last for ever.

Remember the Chev 305? Remember how the cam lobes would wear right off? I had one in a Pontiac and several valve lobes had no bump left. Half were worn down enough to see by eye. Know what the cause was? GM decided to cheapen their cams and use crappier metals to save money because they never wore out. They tested likely in the same manner as this ford and everything was fine BUT.... only as long as the owner changed his oil on time. No one in the real world changes their oil and filter... on time. So the wear accelerated. The old SBCs were 'over engineered' and could take abuse and neglect.

You can't simulate that on a dyno. Lets all agree to re-visit this post in ten years and see how many of those eco tech motors have survived the dreaded 'real world'.

30dive

that was a winner

Domestics since 1999 are great, vastly improved, on a par with Japanese. There are exceptions of course, like the Toyota Echo. And all those Korean-built Chevrolets. And all those Chryslers made in Japan. And all those Mazdas made by Ford (at least that's what it says on the door when I open it in my Mazda pickup).

Anything that flies, if it doesn't break you make it lighter. On a car if it doesn't wear out you make it smaller and cheaper. Our L series is extremely over engineered.

The narrower bearing makes more HP. The wider bearing will last longer. It's called engineering.

The left one is indeed from the L series so if the right one supports 150 hp and up to 300 plus with a turbo just think how much an L bearing will handle. Basically the KA has been watered down.

I bet most people won't let the truck idle after use to let the oil cool down, that always is a major problem for the turbos

The GTRs and ZXs will keep idling on a timer after you shut the key off, lock the door and walk away.
