Just Joel
I'm setting up the drive line in the wagon after the five speed swap and was wondering where to set up the slip yoke in the rear of the transmission so I can measure the shortened length for the drive line shop. Should I set it up tight, in the middle or what do you think? Thanks Joel Quote Link to comment
yello620
The driveline shop i used wanted a measurement from the tailshaft in the trans to the differential flange. They figured the lenght from that measurement. Quote Link to comment
justin 620
In the middle, gives optimum movement either way. But there really isn't much movement, it's just a precaution so that it doesn't bottom out, or come completely out. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
A sedan drive shaft will work. It's 42 9/16" long... not perfect but works. I understand 43 11/16" is perfect for a Z long tail. Quote Link to comment
Uber Deaf One
Call the shop you plan on using and ask them. The shop I went through said to put the yoke all the way into the transmission, then pull it out an inch and measure to the differential flange. I went 3/4" instead of a full inch since there was a little too much play for comfort... it's perfect. Quote Link to comment

Jester
I love this site! I actually found the info I DID A SEARCH for. Joel, what tranny are you using? Mike, is it correct to say the truck 5speed and the Z 5speed are the same length? EDIT: Kept looking. They are the same at 31.5" Now, about that measurement?????? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Mike, is it correct to say the truck 5speed and the Z 5speed are the same length? Not only the same length. The '77 and '78 620 truck 5 speeds are the same as the '77-'78 280z and the '79 280zx. Same case length, internal parts including the same gear ratios. Quote Link to comment
