flatcat19
So I was cleaning out the garage today... I knew they were there, just haven't given them much thought. Someone had an L18 in a box that I bought awhile ago. Disassembled. I also have a spare L16 short block. The L18, as a whole, are pretty beat. But, the rods, pistons, and crank appear to be in great shape. I've read a few things about people doing this-but no results. So who knows what? Being a starving student, this appeals me for the time being. Who can do the compression specs also? Quite a few combos to be made. Keep in mind, I have just the stock 210 head, and an A87 peanut head. L16 block, L18 crank, rods, pistons? L16 block, crank, rods, L18 pistons? I can even source some L20B pistons easily if compression of these combos are too high? Opinions? Thoughts? Numbers? Am I missing a combo, or something else? Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
L16 block and L18 everything else is just a L18. L18 and L20 pistons are the same* cept for teh L18 have a smaller dish. Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
But do this L18 block crank, L16 rods, Z20s pistons Quote Link to comment

Guest 510kamikazifreak
Can you source L24 pistons on the cheap? L16 Block,L16 rods,L24 pistons,A-87 head(closed) good little revers Quote Link to comment

Like I said...I've seen people say they were gonna do it, but they never said anything afterwards. Quote Link to comment

Its a tested proven "ole" school build.done several. They pull strong for itty bitty 16  Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
I can see the numbers of L16 block with L18 guts, and it appears to be a bit of a stroker motor. I couldn't complain of a little bit more torque. Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
Flatcat, try the Helix engine design thing. From Ozdat. Super easy to play around with. Though it seems slow right now. Quote Link to comment

flatcat19
How is this any different than a stock L18? Not sure. I just know the block i have has a big chip in it. Got to do something. Maybe it's L16 block and guts with L18 pistons that makes a L17. I'm spacey today. Worked on the Maxima during hottest part of the day. Who's got two thumbs and is tired as hell? This guy. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
http://www.ozdat.com...e/enginedesign/ I've played with that. I don't get the static compression. It never spits out 9.5 to 1. Always some 1.xx number. Or I'm just doing it wrong. :D Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
Here is one I am working on. CR is low. So I just need to bring that up a bit. Quote Link to comment
