ggzilla
Does anyone know how to get data like the number of Datsuns currently registered in each state? I know dealers pay for such data, is there any provider that works with Car Clubs at a discount? Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
Maybe if you find out how we can all pitch in a little cash to find out :D Quote Link to comment
tangent
Id kick in for that if that person could also get addresses, it make trolling for new projects alot easier... Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
There are about 77,000 registered pre-1973 vehicles in Washington state...how many are Datsun is the question, presumably the report would say? "Car club" registration to join is $150 per/year. Are we a car club? Quote Link to comment
Charboucher
oh, I mean the ones that I have been "watching" lol, that I see often is all Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Id kick in for that if that person could also get addresses, it make trolling for new projects alot easier... If addresses were available, what's to stop thieves from targeting a specific year or model? It would be like a shopping list. I don't want my address out there and I don't want unsolicited calls from people. Present company very accepted, lol. Quote Link to comment
Charboucher
yeah thats a little scary. I have a few I have been checking on to see if owner is "junking" don't need address list. thats dangerous Quote Link to comment
Bleach
42% of CA cars are pre 1973... that is a lot! probaly more of an ensentive due to the tighter emissions testing there Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I worked for GM in '73, the year that compression was lowered. On really cold night shifts, the new '74 owners in the employee's parking lot always had to come back to the guard's shack to get the battery and cables to boost their brand new low compression cars. My 4 year old Charger always started. Quote Link to comment
datsun
of course it started its the freakin general lee. but as for datsuns, they seem to litter the town i live in(sequim wa) and by litter i mean there everywhere not that they are garbage cuz it takes a lot for datsuns to be garbage. there is a beautiful 521 sitting next to a lavender field out here that i wuld almost kill to get my hands on Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
42% of CA cars are pre 1973... that is a lot! probaly more of an ensentive due to the tighter emissions testing there That's the percentage of pre-'73 vehicles in the US, not the percentage of cars in Cali. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
That's the percentage of pre-'73 vehicles in the US, not the percentage of cars in Cali. That can't be right, can it? Surely not all these cars are, or can be insured and on the road. This 42% must include all autos made prior to '73, many now derelict in fields and in back yards. Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
There are over 25 million vehicles registered in California alone. There are almost 250 million vehicles registered in the US, so over 10% of the cars in the US are registered in California. If you take into account that California accounts for 12% of the population, that's not all that unusual. That SEMA table has a major flaw- Yes, it reports there are 2.8 Million pre-1973 vehicles in Cali, and 6.5 million in the US (43% in Cali) BUT the table only lists 26 States. There's 50 States- almost half the US is ignored by the report because half the US doesn't report it publically. It does NOT say that 43% of cars in Cali are 1973 and older. In fact, 11% of cars registered in Cali are 1973 and older. That's high, but it represents SoCal's dry climate and rust being a non-factor when compared to Vermont or Minnesota where cars barely last 10 years due to the road salt. Cali's smog laws probably inflate the number, since you can't "Hot Rod" anything that has to be tested there. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
I just want to know how many are Datsuns. Quote Link to comment
wiwawy
if you read the text above the chart it states "California, the birthplace of hot rodding, has 2,775,004 registered automobiles from model years 1871 through 1972. This represents 5.99% of the total number of registered vehicles in the state" which sounds a little more realistic i think that the 43% was a typo as far as hot rodding in cali it depends on what county you live in, where i live you only smog at change of ownership and then not if it is transfered between family, however most areas are bianual Quote Link to comment
hang_510
...where i live you only smog at change of ownership... AFAIK all pre '75(or 76?) vehicle are exempt from ANY smog check, regardless of county. the last 2 dimes i reg were straight transfers, no smog req. Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
Suckers I've never done smog :D One good thing about growing up in the woods.... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Ther's smog tests on the lower mainland but not out here on the island. Lots of fresh air blowin' in off the Pacific. Quote Link to comment
