freekwonder
Picked this gem last night. Pretty good starting point and not a lot of rust. The tow vehicle is my buddies '11 2500 Sierra Denali with 6inch lift, 37" tires, and 20" wheels. Drove beautiful. New ride is a '70 Datsun 521, lowered, gas tank in the bed, she needs a little TLC, but should be a good little DD. I'll get some better pics later today. Fat guy in a little truck. Getting our eats on. few more pictures. She definitely needs some TLC and cleaning up. Quote Link to comment

Does it run? Yup, just got back from a nice cruise with my son, definitely needs some exhaust work and the carb needs adjusting, which I've never done before. Guess I should start looking into a weber, elec dizzy, and a nice header. Quote Link to comment
Uncle Laulau
It makes me happy that you are happy, to obtain that good looking little pu. Happy fixn up! I would like you to offer you one r front turn signal lense, one distributer (old schol), ignition coil, and spare full size stock wheel if you need for shipping costs only. freekwonder
Uncle Laulau - Thank you for the offer, luckily I some spare stuff sitting around, I got a dist and spare tire with the truck. And with my 510, I've got spare motor parts sitting around. Plus I'm thinking of getting one of the weber 32/36 kits, and going elec dizzy. Quote Link to comment
freekwonder
Another 521 saved! Good score. Truck looks great! NICE 521 Thanks, I'm pretty happy with her so far. Just need to get a picture of her with my Dime. Definitely a Nissan family now. My 510 and 521, Nissan Cube, and Mother-in-law has a Altima coupe. Quote Link to comment
freekwonder
Dumb question time, how different are the 510 and 521 motor mounts. My passenger side mount looks like 90 year old man balls. Quote Link to comment
freekwonder
Well trying to clean things up, thanks to ratsun got my shifter feeling better, I got my parking brake hooked up and the lines are tight, but the brake isn't holding. Anybody got any advice on the drums, I've never messed with them. I tried to take them off today, but wasn't sure how to do it. I'd look into the disc conversion, but I can't afford new wheels yet. Also any advice on wheels, either a 15 or 16 for sizing and backspacing? Quote Link to comment
freekwonder
Somi changed motor mounts, brought the oil pan off of the crossmember, but the steering linkage is still scrapping the oil pan. Quote Link to comment

You can hammer them out from the inside. the rears are more of a challenge. a couple different ways to go. 1. get a 3 pound hammer and hammer the hell out of them, with the lug nuts on so you dont F up the lugs. also spray some wd40 on the hub and let it soak overnight before banging away. 2. some people use a torch and then bang. sweet find. Quote Link to comment

I had a similar problem with steering linkage rubbing on my oil pan. turns out my motor had a 510 oil pan, which is different than the 521 oil pan. I got a 521 oil pan on there now and the steering linkage clears with room to spare. Quote Link to comment

freekwonder
Well I do have a 521 oil pan, but I need to more mounts now. I got some from a board member and put one on to replace the dead one but it came apart. Put the second one on and it ended up come part also. My transmission mount looks good, but it seems like the motor mounts are getting pulled back by the motor. Can I get a good picture of 521 L16 mounts? And the 1970 did come with the L16 and not the J13 right? Quote Link to comment
