jon521
Does anybody know where I can get a stock stereo for a 71 521? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
no stereo. monoraul only. You can fit one from another model Datsun even an early 1980s model. Quote Link to comment
jon521
alright thanks. ya mine is missing it and i want to fill the hole with the stock look then hide an amp. so any from the 70s models will fit? Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
The size is called single din. All single din stereos fit into the hole. But the face is another problem. Get one that looks period correct and has stereo, not mono. You will be good. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Here's one I got from a 1984 sentra, even say "Datsun" on it put it in my 1972. Quote Link to comment
jon521
alright thank you i will see what i can find Quote Link to comment
raggmann
My parts 521 came with an empty stock radio hole in the dash, a factory speaker, and a package tray. My project truck came with no speaker but it does have a single din radio. The coolest retro part (if you wanna call it that) is the fact that the single din radio is an 8-track. I don't have any 8-track cassettes to try but it does light up when I feed it power. I have to wire it to thespeaker yet to see if the radio itself will work. Quote Link to comment
jon521
so bringing up an old topic, a topic i started awhile ago, could someone plz post a pic of a stock radio in a 521? ive been looking in JYs for a radio but havent been able to find the right one. the radio should ccome with a face right? because some of the other radios ive tried, they fit the hole, but it looks like its missing a face piece. pics help! thanks in advanced :D Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
They are missing a "face"... The one ggzilla posted is designed to fit a small rectangular hole with 2 round holes one the ends for the tuning/volume knobs/shafts to go through. Quote Link to comment
jon521
i think i found my answer in datwifeys thread Quote Link to comment
brodster
This is a TERRIBLE pic, but it was the best I could find during lunch break on google images. I will try to post one up tonight if someone doesn't beat me to it: Also, are you going to be using a stock single speaker or are you going to amp it to two speakers? Currently I am designing a discreet interface/amp to a single speaker with a MP3 player Aux jack. The original radio was designed to push an old ~6" 8 ohm speaker rated at a few watts. Oddly, it has been much more work finding all the equipment to drive a newer single 4 ohm speaker than just cutting holes and making it stereo. I originally was just going to find a small mono amp that could push about 50W RMS. It seems they don't really make small mono amps anymore, probably because everyone uses mono amps to drive a single sub. And I don't really want to get a stereo amp and use just one channel. Just doesn't seem right. I want something small and compact. Easy to hide. I guess it depends on your goals. I wanted to maintain it completely stock looking but intergrate a more powerful updated speaker and add in an MP3 player input. Quote Link to comment

DatWifey
Let me try to track down that radio in our garage tonight and get a proper photo of it (or maybe Brodster will since he seems motivated now). I have the metal plate over the plastic one, so it's actually not a totally appropriate photo for you  Quote Link to comment
mong2539
Very rare............ In my country.Bangkok It is another. Quote Link to comment
DatWifey
So here's a more correct photo of it, with the metal & plastic plates in proper order..... but the knobs are buried in a box, so this will have to suffice ;) Quote Link to comment

Just another option for ya.. Quote Link to comment

Tom@LRD
In my spare parts pile that came with my 521 I got an AM/FM Clarion radio along with a spare stock speaker. The radio is fairly correct looking for the era of these trucks. Quote Link to comment

Elkie
Someone musta modified the mounts in my truck cause my radio looks almost exactly like datwifey, but I couldn't get mine in. Quote Link to comment
DatWifey
You should take a photo of your dash. I'm interested to see what it looks like, as that looks like it should fit if you take the knobs and faceplate off to install it. Quote Link to comment
lil89ram50
if it fits in the stock silver plate, it will fit in the dash, eness your not taking it apart to instal? Quote Link to comment
Elkie
Notice how high the holes are, I just wasn't able to get it in, it sat too high. And sorry about the thread jack, lol. Went and snapped a pic of it trying to be installed. I mean it just looks like someone hacked it up in general. Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
It actually looks as though someone installed a horizontal filler plate at the top so that an early Philco unit from a 1965 era Mustang would fit. They had a weird and unique shaft to dial location. Quote Link to comment
