Shaggs2Dope
Hey guys, just wanted to share a couple pics of my truck. It's a 74 PL620, and I started rebuilding it well before I could drive. It has rolled the odometer numerous times, and has been in my family since 74. It has done the entire ALCAN highway, and been across the US numerous times with a SixPac camper on it. I cut off the helpers and sway bars long ago, and beat the crap out of it all the time. It will not die... I have had this truck for 15+ years and it is still running strong. I just did a service on it this weekend, and cleaned the motor with 2 cans of cleaner, cleaned out the carb, reset idle, deep charged the battery, cleaned the fuses up. There are still layers of road gunk I need to powerwash off, but I wanted to get it running super smoothe, and it is smoothe as ever, but the secondaries won't open. So I am going to put the Weber Redline back on after I rebuild it, and powerwash and clean up the engine bay as best possible. What I should do is do a total frame-off just for the satisfaction. It's very straight, no accidents, and gets used as a truck regularly. It used to easily blow past the 100mph mark, just gotta prepare for everything to rattle. The front tires are 235/60/14s on 5-slot mags and rears are 245/60/14. The only thing that needs work is the front bumper from push starting other cars, and the seats need to be redone again. The next paintjob will probably be charcoal or medium steel gray, and black out the rear bumper, and redo all badges black again and the front grille. This truck holds up like no other. All my other cars and bikes are hondas, and ducati, but my Datsun will never Die. Quote Link to comment

]2eDeYe
That's a good looking truck. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
In addition to how fine it looks body wise... Slotted mags look great on older Datto trucks. Running 'narrower' tires on the front is a favorite 'muscle car' era trick to make RWD tires look even bigger. I love it! The later mid '76 and on bumpers came with thick rubber bumper over riders. I think they compliment a blacked out grill. . Quote Link to comment

Shaggs2Dope
I'm in Santa Rosa, CA. Which is the wine country area about 1 hour north of San Francisco. That ICP sticker has been on there for 15 years, and is still on there. Good ol Ringmaster :) The mirrors are just folded up because my dad is short and when he uses my truck he folds them up so he can see. I rarely use my mirrors, I always look over the shoulder, so I fold them down flat. These are older pics (about a year). I just started up the truck for the first time in months and have decided to start fixing some stuff. I want to replace the front lower blinkers, the fusebox, and probably black out the rear bumper. I can't ditch the bumper because I do tow and move my boats with it. The truck has taken a back seat to all my other cars and bikes and stuff after all the years, but the truck somehow is still my favorite. It is seriously living history. It's even cleaner than these pics right now. If I ever clean out my garage I will take it all apart and do a full restoration. It will probably be a while, especially since I redid it 15 years ago and it is still pretty clean from the last go round. I need to dig up old pics of when I got it when I was 12 and started rebuilding it. I fix up cars for a living, so it's easy to be sick of projects by the time you get home. My other rides are a 2000 accord coupe, 2008 fit sport, 2009 civic sedan, 05 CBR600RR, 05 Ducati 999, and all are modded. The other project is a 57 chevy for my old man. The bumper not being straight bugs me a bit, since I used to use it to push start other cars, but it worked better in reverse up against the big bumper. The Blinkers and fusebox are my next couple projects, then just strip, power-wash, and clean up as much as possible. It has a minty dash cover, new carpet kit, but the seats need to be done again, and I want to paint it gunmetal, but the blue/aqua really works well on the car. My girl works at a body shop so I may have to call in some favors. Thanks for the comments guys, and truth be told, even with nicer new cars, the Datsun ALWAYS works, and has gotten more ass than all the other rides combined :) The very next project is rebuilding the Weber Redline carb and really power-washing the undercarriage and hitting it with some rubberized insulation. I have lurked on here a couple times but not posted much. I love the old Datsuns, and they were actually what got me into the Hondas, go figure... Here's the rest of the fleet :) I pretty much am a slave to the cars and bikes. They require the vast majority of my income. I hope to pick up either another PL620 and do a flatbed 4x4 with Toyota 22RE motor and running gear, or a 510 and SLAM it with some ridiculous engine swap. I have also done a Hyundai Elantra with DSM Mitsu 4G63 motor and a 93 civic CX hatch with a japanese prelude H22A-S motor that ran 13s all day all motor. Top improvements I would like to do would be DISC BRAKE conversion and high power yellow high beams. The truck is still pretty dammed solid. Many of you guys have killer trucks and other Datsuns as well. It's amazing to see how many are still running strong. Quote Link to comment
Shaggs2Dope
Little update - got a new fuse box, blinkers/running lights with half clear half orange lenses, really looks nice. Plus put in new door handles, as my originals were wrapped in hockey tape a few times over. Also have another carb on the way, want to rebuild the Redline again. Have put dehumidifiers in the truck during winter and pulled the carpets to keep em new. As for the mirror question, they were just folded up for more room to move bikes between cars in the driveway. I normally have them down level and back. I also got new rubber hood supports since my hood is low. If I can straighten up the front bumper she should be looking good and running well.
