Skib
cant really make much call without seeing it. check under the pass side 1/4 panel interior panel in the spare tire well for rust along with the usual battery tray, floors ect. 79 only came with an N/A L28 in 5 speed or auto. Bleach
Auto is slow. This car of that age really has a huge difference in power between auto and 5-speed. The good news is that back then cars were fairly easy to convert to a 5-speed later. (if you want) If you're able to find one in a local wrecking yard or a car being parted out then you may be able to get the parts used for a total of $200-300 for the conversion. I wrote an article on buying a 280ZX a couple years ago on Zdriver.com http://www.zdriver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16386  Quote Link to comment

Bleach
The factory service manual shows a certain VIN for a 4-speed 280ZX in 1979 vs a 5-speed. In all my years of Z-addiction I have yet to see or even hear of any solid evidence of the existence of a 4-speed manual 280ZX Quote Link to comment
Skib
same, Iv never seen one. it makes no sense for a 79 to have a 4 speed when the 75-78 came with 5 speeds Quote Link to comment

Bleach
Ya and that rear is an R200 3.3 SUPER rare. I have heard of one of those in existence before but not the 4-speed 280ZX... but anyway... its more likely that the car is a 280ZXR than a 4-speed manual. :D lolz Quote Link to comment
Skib
lol in the NW for sure, I know of 4 ZXR's in the PDX area  Quote Link to comment
