This would have been the mid 50's and while seamless nylons were about 10 years old, the older silk ones had to have a seam in the back and were still either still in fashion, cheaper or the nylon ones had a fake seam in them. When your 4, you see the world from a different viewpoint about 3 feet above the floor and is, at least in the supermarkets of the '50s, populated with endless women's legs snugly encased in silky smoothness with a seam that flows like an ocean wave up over shapely calves and thighs. Women suffered them and the bother to get the seams ruler straight or risk having another woman point out that they weren't straight. Almost a lost art today. Seamed stockings are rarely seen even with high heels. Nothing, (I mean nothing) grabs my attention like catching a gimps of seam and I have followed a woman with seams for blocks simply just to watch. (sigh) Hey! I'm not a perv!
