IIRC, I saw a picture of a long bed and a short bed side by side... it seemed like the rear wheels were a bit further back on the long bed...

But, anything's doable... if you're going to get airbags you probably could just cut the frame a bit shorter and move the rear axle far enough forward to make up the difference...

But, how common are long bed extended cabs? If there's only a couple of them rolling around you might want to keep it... it'd be a shame to hack it up to make it a short bed, and then realize that a long-bed is rarer/cooler/works better for you...

Edit: Nevermind, it looks like the extra length is in the back... I suppose you'd just have to hack off a bit of the frame and bolt on a short bed...

I may B wrong but I think all KC dats had the shortbed on them.

I've seen at least 20 KC's here in Texas. All but one were long beds.

Around here they are very common. It's the short bed KC that's rare. And I REALLY don't like the way it looks. Maybe lower would help the look?

been looking for an extended cab 720 locally and finally found one, but it's a long bed.

Can it be made into a short bed? Or too much work? If all the extra length is in back, it's feasible, but if some of it's in the middle...

I guess it's 4-link and bag time? :P

Ad is here...

I may be wrong, but there is no 720 ext. cab long bed, just like there's no 620 KC long bed.

The 620 KC and the 620 long bed are the same frame length though. The longer bed makes up for the shorter cab.

The only box I could find for my KC awas a long one ... so I cut the front end off, trim it and slide it back about 11" and weld in place. The sides will also be trimmed and wrapped around and welded. Most of the ugliness will be hidden behind the cab.

Long or short bed??? Count the bed hooks. 4= short bed, 5= long bed.

This is a King Cab with a 73.4" bed. The regular cab (short wheelbase) box is 72.2" long and the Long bed (long wheelbase) box is 86.4".

The reg box and King Cab have 3 cargo tie downs, the long bed has 5, at least the '84s do.

I guess the KC just makes it look hell of long...

Now I feel like a douche...

No no, your too hard on yourself. Whenever there's discussion, info gets passed around, everyone learns something. And it's not just us on this post, someone might read this in six months time and say "I didn't know that!" All questions are good.:D
