pl521sss
Greetings folks We just lowered our wagon using 2'' block and placed the bottom leaf spring on top. It lowered by more than 3'' for sure. But can no longer drive it. Noise is coming from the back, drive shaft if I'm not mistaken. Difficult to check while running the car. Everything seems to clear. Has anyone ran into this issue? Please advise Thanks Abraham Quote Link to comment
Guest 510kamikazifreak
You have encountered Pinion slap, The diff hits the tunnel makes a gawd aweful noise:lol: Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
Does it sound like a mini jack hammer? If so you will have to do this.... This is what 3 years of daily driving a wagon with that noise does!! I like the stance though :D It is a really good friend of mine's wagon, since the photo it got rearended :( He still drives it but its fucked!! Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
I did 2" blocks in the back and had to cut off half the snubber above the nose of the diff. Yours is probably on it hard. Quote Link to comment
69FJWagon
Abe check the pinion snubber like they said I cut MOST of mine out and I also run something like a 4 degree pinion angle spacer Feel free to give me a call I can come over and help out anytime Clayton Quote Link to comment

Do you still have any pinion slap under normal driving? But then again, normal driving for you maybe doing burnoutsdonuts. :D Belltech offers 2, 4 and 6 degree. Your using 4 degree, correct? Pacific coast Datsun
Putting the "overload" leaf on top will make it ride really rough & you may want to remove it from that location. If you leave it out completely [not good] the axle will wrap if you take off quick from a stop & basically the axle will "flop" around. Ice may be right, your shaft or U joints may be hitting the bottom of the car. Jack it up & inspect. Quote Link to comment

This is what 3 years of daily driving a wagon with that noise does!! Wow, that's extensive work for a 3'' + plus lowering on a wagon. This must have been a radical drop on his wagon. Or did he know about the pinion angle shims? Will take a pix of the our wagon now and post it. Just to give you guys an idea. I'm glad my 521 didn't have this issue. And that was at least 4-6'' drop. If I could keep it from wheel hopping the answer would be NO but because of the spring rate of the leafs and design it usally hops and it does hit but normal driving its fine, I used a 2 degree but I machined 2 degrees into my blocks...I think i stamped the blocks I just have to look but I would say you would be fine with the 4 degree block Quote Link to comment
hang_510
a torque bar will help with some of it. good luck tracking one down. ive already had 1 slip through my fingers :cursing: maybe rearching the leafs will help stiffen it too. Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
His wagon has 3" blocks with a 1" block on top :) he doesn't have it shimmed ether. He has been daily driving if for 4 years with no problems. It has a zx trans with a 610 wagon driveline. 6 months ago when we did the custom DL tunnel I felt the U joints and the felt fine. It rides nice now :) I tried to get him to re arke the leafs and go lower but he wouldn't.... I think he didn't won't to give up the nicest ride he's had in 3+ years. Haha Quote Link to comment

I have done 3 or 4 wagons with the short bottom leaf flipped upside down and put on top and the ride was the same as stock in my opinion never had any problems. but when I first lowered my wagon the harsh ride came from the axel bump stops against the the axel all the time, tossed those then it was my shocks bottoming out so I went to a short stroke race shock off the rear of a porsche 944 turbo custom valved for a soft set up for the rain...perfect for a wagon :D Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
Sounds like you guys put the angle shims in the rear to get the nose down more. When I measured my pinion angle against the trans, it showed I needed to add 1.5 deg to the front to bring the nose up. Quote Link to comment
