dezertranger
possibly, a guy out here is puttin one in his 620 ill have to see how his fits and how much room it gives me Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
They seem to be reasonably sized engines. Plus, theres a great market for aftermarket parts. Quote Link to comment
polmec
I installed a 4.3 in a 76 620, fit great runs real strong. You are right there are LOTS of performance parts for them. Here are a few pics. Quote Link to comment
dezertranger
ya my dad has a 4.3 in his sandrail, it has a ton of power how hard was that swap? i found a 3.8 and 4.3 Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
They have lots of petential. It's pretty easy getting them in and out. The fact that they're a V6 gives you lots of elbow room to get around wherever you need to go. Quote Link to comment
polmec
The swap was fairly easy. Used the stock trans mounting point for the starting locator.Fab some mounts to bolt to the stock front mount on the frame. Hardest part was finding headers........E BAY. I take the motor, engine up to 6500-7000 rpm. Quote Link to comment
dezertranger
what would i search as far as headers? Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
Best results is by searching GM or Chevy 4.3L headers. Prices range from 200-400$ My brother just ordered a set a few min ago :P Quote Link to comment
dezertranger
so theres no specific dimensions to look for? Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
It's my understanding that the majority of 4.3L headers fit GM engines, as long as it specificly says that they are designed for GM or Chevy 4.3L engines. Usually, the best that you will find are whats listed as "block huggers" which in your situation, may be exactly what you want since you're looking to save space under the hood. Your not likely to find any shortie style headers for a 4.3 that are resonably priced. Quote Link to comment

metalmonkey47
Are you looking at a Carb'ed 4.3? Or the Vortec TBI? Quote Link to comment
Guest kamakazi620
Are you looking at a Carb'ed 4.3? Or the Vortec TBI? It shouldn't matter, cuz you just use an edelbrock carb intake!!!! 1 Quote Link to comment
JDM510
no internal differences??? Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
It shouldn't matter, cuz you just use an edelbrock carb intake!!!! True, however the Vortec uses different heads and if I'm correct, is lighter then the pre-Vortec 4.3L engines. Also has a forged bottom end? Not 100% though. Quote Link to comment
dezertranger
not sure, ill find out tomorow. if it is the vortech is it gonna be harder to find headers? Quote Link to comment
