Helicoil question.

I have a friend that just found out that his new-to-him truck has had helicoils installed into the spark plug holes in this truck. Are these things one time use only? Once you loosen or remove the spark plug, do you need to put in a fresh helicoil?

they should be a permanent thing. no need to replace em unless they come out on ya.

Me personally I'd NEVER use a heli-coil on a spark plug hole, I'd be too worried it wouldn't seal or would spin down and fall into the cylinder after repeated use. Bore out and sleeve with a plug adapter.

helicoils in the spark plug holes = facepalm

Machine shops use them all the time. They are considered a repair and can be used over and over. As stated earlier, don't forget the anti-seize!

use helicoils righ before you sell it!!!!!!!!!

 

make sure to use NGK plugs.

Autolite have a slightly different pitch and are hard to get out.

 

if using helicoil make sure no to overtighten

I'm working on an aluminium Mazda F8 head right now - just about all the studs are helicoiled in it, and some are pulling out - not nice to work with. But I guess with the older motors you've got to expect wear and tear.
