Skibby I haven't seen that on trucks only cars. The 620 has this info stamped into the top surface of the frame just forward of the pass side motor mount.

KLHG 620 KTUV (example)

K or E .... K is King Cab, E is Cab Chassis model. Blank it's a reg. cab

L........... Left hand drive

H.......... L20B motor

G.......... long box, no G present means short box

620....... truck, duh.

K or F..... K is automatic, F is 5spd., blank is 4 spd.

T........... floor shift

U........... US or Canada

V or N.... V is California, N is Canada and blank is US Federal

There is an engine tag screwed on the driver's inner fender on the 620.

Ok the plate has KHL620 326554. The plate under the hood calls it the chassis number.

The truck is a King cab, L20b motor, left hand drive. 620. it is a 5 speed with the floor shifter, US.

Does this sound right? KHL620FTU326554

The chassis number IS the VIN. KHL620326554 would be it. The extra letters after the "620" are option designators that bear no meaning to titling or registration, and were only ever present on the window sticker (the dealer "price tag"). Sometimes they were on the emissions sticker. But they aren't part of the VIN.

The numbers on the doorframe tag, the engine room tag, and the frame rail should match.

Thanks for the help. I gave the number KHL620326554 to Geico and they said the number wasn't any good.

I will have to try again or go somewhere else for the insurance.

Thanks again

Call the insurance company again. The kid at the end of the line has a computer that tells them their answers. Give them the reminder that this Datsun Truck was built before the changeover to the 'standard' 17 digit Vehicle Identification Numbering System (which occured in 1983). I had to do the same thing with my 610 and a reputable nationwide insurance, and my car has a 10 digit VIN. You will likely get the supervisor, like I did. Be persistant. There is likely a Geico office that will want to verify the VIN. I took pictures of all three plates and got my paperwork right away. Good Luck!
