datsunaholic
Considering that an automatic doesn't HAVE a flywheel, yes. (Automatics have a flexplate) Quote Link to comment
ariascarlos1990
Can anybody tell me when you switch an auto 510 to a manual do you need a different flywheel. are you serious? Make sure you take the dip stick out of the auto and put it in the manual because it wont have one.... Quote Link to comment

imtb
thanks for the response. I figured somebody probably would know what was needed. durr, I didnt even think of the dipstick, guess you could call me a dipshit, ha Quote Link to comment
pl521sss
Don't think it's funny to ask that question. He hasn't done the auto to manual swap so .... You'll need all 3 pedals from manual and that's including the gas pedal. If you don't, brake and gas will be very close to each other. clutch line Clutch MC Also some minor wiring so you can start the engine. I'm sure there's other stuff to consider and it's documented here somewhere. Quote Link to comment
lynchfourtwenty
the search button coulda helped here.. or hell even google.. if i want to know something, i search on the forum of my choice, if i dont find it there.. i google.. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
What pl521sss said and don't forget to remove the spacer under the 'flywheel'. Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
datzenmike What pl521sss said and don't forget to remove the spacer under the 'flywheel'. datzenmike means the spacer on the crankshaft behind the flex plate. pl521sss You'll need all 3 pedals from manual and that's including the gas pedal. If you don't, brake and gas will be very close to each other. clutch line Clutch MC Also some minor wiring so you can start the engine. Also get the clutch disk, pressure plate, thow out bearing, throw out bearing fork, slave cylinder with adjusting rod, hydraulic hose and steel tubing. Do not forget when you get the flywheel to get the bolts for the crank & the clutch pressure plate as they are different than the automatic ones. Quote Link to comment
ariascarlos1990
you're gonna want to get the plate that blocks off the view of flywheel from the manual. in-between motor and tranny. know what I mean? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The automatic 'engine plate' will have a removable bottom part or an opening so the torque converter bolts can be accessed. The standard is one piece and covers everything from the bottom of the block. Engine plates are mounted between the block and the flywheel. Both are from standards. Left is L series right is from a Z series motor. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q251/datzenmike/L%20Z%20Heads%20and%20Motors/L20bandZ20Ebackingplate.jpg[/img]"] Quote Link to comment
cbattey224
hey im doing the same auto to manual. will the auto driveshaft work on the manual trans are they the same length. thanks guys Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If you find and swap in a stock 510 4 speed OR the 5 speed from a '77-'79 200sx OR the optional 5spded from an A10 they are the same length as the 510 auto and the old driveshaft should fit. Any other 5speed will be longer and the driveshaft will need shortening. For one thing the longer 5speeds from a 620 truck, the 280z/zx or Maxima are more plentiful, probably cheaper and are stronger so shortening the driveshaft it a small concern. This is a big undertaking to convert auto to manual with a lot of things to consider and parts to collect. and all this on top of a motor swap. I would run what you have maybe swap in an L20B and flex plate and get everything sorted out running wise. You'll probably enjoy it..... for a while. Then start researching everything needed to convert over. Read everything here and think about it. Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
I apologize, I miss read this post. I thought you you were going to an automaic from a five speed. Please disregard what I posted. Listen to Datzenmike he will steer you in the right direction. Quote Link to comment
tr8er
Do not forget when you get the flywheel to get the bolts for the crank & the clutch pressure plate as they are different than the automatic ones. Is this legit? Will I need different bolts? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well they are different length I believe. The auto flex plate is thinner than the manual flywheel so likely shorter bolts and won't go into the crank as far. Quote Link to comment
