datsun dreamer
When replacing the gasket will the crossmember be in the way when the pan drops, It looks pretty close:eek: Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
You bet it will be. The pickup tube goes all the way to the bottom. It's possible to snake it under, but the hard part is cleaning the baked-on gasket chunks off with no room to work. Quote Link to comment
datsun dreamer
That's what i was afraid of!!!! such a pain in the ass for a $10 gasket:confused: Any other options?????? Quote Link to comment
Pacific coast Datsun
Jason id go ahead & remove the crossmember & make it easy. Make sure the truck is on level ground when you remove it, mine wasnt when i took it off & lining up the holes was a challenge. Quote Link to comment
datsun dreamer
That looks like it would be the easier way, I am gonna try to replace this weekend:D Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
ON my 521 I crushed my gasket by overtighten the bolts So what I did is loosen the bolts that went to the frame motor mounts. The I jacked up the transmissin till it hit the tunn I believe(your judgement call on this) I had enough room to lower the pan then pushed it to one side to get enough of my fingers and hands to get past the sump tube. If you have a 620 there might be less movement. but this is what I did. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
You may also want to make sure the pan is flat at the flange. The holes tend to cone after tightening the bolts up a few times. I also use the right stuff on pan gaskets. It's a little price but worth it not to have any seapage. http://www.permatex.com/brand_right_stuff.htm Quote Link to comment
Roman Tasel
Those things suck to replace, i had to take everything apart to drop the oil pan. Quote Link to comment
