What do you guys think. I wanna see what kind of deal I can strike if I trade my 1929 Mercedes Benz Gazelle kit car for a 1997 Mustang Cobra Convertible. I honestly have always dreamed of owning a Mustang Cobra and I am willing to do a two for one special. Meaning, The Mercedes Benz Gazelle and my 1987 Nissan 300zx for the Cobra. Is it worth it?

Personally I think that generaiton Mustang is the ugliest one they ever built.

On the other hand, your Gazelle and 87 300ZX probably aren't worth much anyways, so maybe it's not a bad deal.

So unless your 300ZX is a *really* sweet one in awesome shape, I'd probably trade.

hey yelow 620 im not saying its gonna happen im going to try to make it happen. and the sr dream will happen eventually when money is more avaliable but that is besides the point dude.

but yellowdatsun, the z is in great mechanical condition but the body is out there as in diffrent shades of red and a couple of dings here and there and yes the mustang is ugly but rare!

whoops, wandered into the wrong thread! buuut, since i'm here.... jon, jon, jon. "rare" means all the rest went to the boneyard shortly after a "red-letter" dealership re-call. unless you already have a buyer lined up, one that is blind, has no ears, no lawyer, lives on an island and doesn't ever read the paper or listen to the news, take it from a former ford lincoln mercury specialist*, RUN!!!

cheers

Two for one? I look at the situation and say no. Despite what you get at the end of the deal, you are still out two cars that you know about for one car that you don't know that well.

How did Stephen Stills put it...?

Ah, yes 'Love the one you're with'!

sliding creep--what is this red letter recall that you speak of????

ever hear of a five hour oil change? or the car having to stay for a few days for a "routine maintenance"? there were several problems with that generation of mustang (or any for that matter starting in mid '64) diff seals, axle end seals, steering rack leaks, FI system was shit at best, crank sensor, ecu, cylinder heads needed to be replaced as they cracked and or were pre-warped straight from the factory! and the list actually goes on, not to mention most of these goings on lasted up until a few years ago! don't plan on airbag deployment, ever, and i mean THEY DO NOT WORK in any type of collision, as fomoco decided the margin of error was negligible as they operated (partial deployment counts!) during testing at least half the time. and in answer to your original question,:D that year's "red letter" was the cylinder heads, valve train and timing components for the win!!! X gets the center square! HOO-AHH!!!

go for it jon! and if you do, i gots a shiny JFK coin ta trade fer yer 710!

cheers

Idk if I consider that the ugliest gen stang, the fox body 5.slows to me are like shoe boxes with wheels. I actually like the ford modular series v8 too, for what it's worth anyway.

I worked at a Ford dealer when the 96 up Mustangs first came out. I never heard of any of those problems. I also have been on a big Mustang site for years and never heard any of those problems either. The Taurus Sho V8 did have some timing gear problems but it wasnt the same as the Mustang modular engine. The fuel injection system is a good design, they do well in race cars with close to a 1000 hp, why would they use the stock injection if its so bad? Obviously they would have to use larger injectors but the ecerything else was the same. The 8.8 rear end is the best one out there as far as strength and reliability go. They are stronger than a 12 bolt Chevy and not that much weaker than the 9" Ford. I had a 90 Mustang LX and it never leaked a drop nor heard of any problems with the newer cars either. Im sure there were a few, but any car will have some go bad if made in any number, even the old Datsuns had problems if you looked at enough cars. Seems to me that there have been quite a few complaints of bad head gaskets in the L series engines, does that make them all junk?

i guess i wasn't clear, and adding my worthless opinion didn't help as folks like to split hairs on the interweb. cause, "if it's not online, it didn't happen," i was explaining why the coverup and why there were a ton of hours logged and paid for when i had to rip into a new furd that would come in for a "complimentary" service. i can tell that you or a loved one never had the rear left wheel fly of your fucus kona model, as secrecy saved lives... some, at any rate. so in retort, NO, not all are cars with recalls are junk. just all the fords and chebbies... :D gotcha! being a knuckle draggin' mopar nerd, gimme a chrysler that wasn't recalled and i'll say "RARE". MO-PAR! or NO CAR! oh, and DATSUN ROCKS!!!

cheers

on second thought, yes! they're ALL junk one way or another. that's why we loves 'em!
