  1. temp sending wire yellow/white ballest black/white on one side and 2 wires black/red, black/red on the other side. 2 black/red's go closest to the radiator. coil black/red on the positive. blue/white and black/yellow on the negative. i'll try and get you some pics.
  2. rewiring from scratch isn't easy if you dont know what your doing or a novice or even if you do know what your doing.. besides sticking withe stock is always best so the next owner doesnt take a flame thrower to it.:D just find a original unmolested wiring harness from the junk yard or a forum member and replace yours then save yours for spare parts. oh wait you have a 620. trade it for a 521. they look much better and the wiring is waaaayyyy easier. good luck
  3. it's not likely i can just use a hacksaw and get one of these from the junk yard so if anyone has a frame thats gonna be scraped or whatever... not like i'll get lucky anytime soon as i have no optimism but i can bump this thread every couple months and with some serious luck maybe oneday i'll have one.
  4. here is a tip for everybody. take your test light and stick it each hole on your cluster harness plug and tweek(pry) the round connector closed just a hair on each one. i've never seen a corroded connection on these but they do become loose from removing them.
  5. thank jesus your not trying to figure this out on a 620. harder to take apart and 50 times more wires. it's no wonder the fuse boxes melt along with the rest of those harnesses. fucking double backing wires everywhere. the 521 harness is way more straight forward. just figuring out how to take out a 620 cluster with the hidden bolt and figuring out how to get the light switch out can end up breaking both. i like to play with wires but the 620's just piss me off. that and the damn harness changed every year towards the end. 521's rule!! i smell another poll coming on.
  6. first thing first, take your test light check the fuse box with the ignition switch on and make sure you have power on both sides of all of your fuses. next stick your test light on the temp sending wire at the temp sending unit with the wire disconnected from the unit. if the gauge doesn't move there is a problem with the cluster (pod). usually the printed circuit board gets melted and the copper printing is then junk unless you soilder a wire strand where the break is. seen burnt circuit boards on at least 75 percent of 521's i've never seen a burnt gauge let alone 2 or a bad volt gauge reg. still possible disconnect your cluster plug and take your test light and stick it the hole with the yellow/green wire. with the key on your test light should light up saying you have gauge power at the plug. or if your oil light or ignition light works then you have power going to the cluster. if you can crawl under the dash or pull the cluster out far enough to leave the harness plugged in you can take your test light and with the ignition on there should be power on both sides of the gauge volt reg. does your oil, ignition light work? dash lights work? if no to all your not getting power from that yellow/green wire. the cluster (pod) needs to be grounded (screwed down) for the dash lights and turn signals but not for the oil light or ignition light or gauges. if your oil light or ignition light works then you have power to your gauge volt reg. if this doesn't help or when in doubt just start swapping shit out.:D
  7. the 2 blue wires are the same power wire so which is which doesn't matter.
  8. my 521 has 3 switches reverse (red/black, red/black) neutral safety (blue/yellow, blue) 3rd gear switch for the dual points system (blue/green, blue) you may also want the neutral safety to work. neither on my 2 521's work. no biggie sticking your ohm meter on the switches and moving the shifter in and out of neutral,reverse,3rd gear will tell you which switch is which.
  9. took this engine and trans out just to show you where the tranny filler plug is.:D when filling it bring the fluid level up to the plug. hope this helps my friend. does anyone know if the breather valves are screwed in or pressed in. as you can see i broke mine off like a jackass. white round circle at the top.
  10. very nice i like it. how about a interior pic?
  11. thanks for the pics bleach. sorry for bitchin.
  12. damn i missed it. anyone save a pic. i think it should be mandatory for the original poster to always include a pic. all the craigslist links are dead after a day or more like this one and i cant see what the hell everyone is talking about. this site is littered with dead ads and most dont have a pic. yeah i know. a day late and a dollar short.
  13. iv'e never seen a tailgate panel. i'll have to find one to put on my 521. it looks cleaner without the hooks but as yello said i use them way too much to get rid of mine. is that your L motor valve cover being painted i see?
  14. i wish i may, i wish i might, bring that fucker home tonight.
  15. pm sent, check your inbox.
  16. gen the story on this truck would be interesting. do you plan on going back out there? if not maybe you know the address so someone can send them a post card or something steering them to our site or the olddatsunpickuplovers site in case they want to get rid of it or fix it up.:)
  17. no no at $10 a gallon we will all be riding motorcycles getting 60-80mph. can you say rice burner?
  18. my needle was sticking in places then my speedo got ruined in my 521 cause the cable inside was too long. i would have to unscrew it from the speedo and my needle would fall back down to zero. it was so long i could barley get the threads to grab when hooking it up. pair of dikes fixed the problem. better to break the cable than the speedo.
  19. nothing wrong with you seth. do you collect cartoon memorabilia or cells? do you draw? the older the toon the better i think. but then again i like vintage anything. now where can i watch some old flintstones or jetsons. there needs to be a vintage toon station. maybe there is but i wouldn't know cause i just have basic expanded cable. i still have my first bugs bunny baby rattle from 1976.:) my godfather had a wiley coyote tattoo on one arm and road runner on the other.
  20. good going, i tried to break loose my elbow a couple weeks ago and couldn't get it to budge. i didn't try to use a breaker bar. mine was just slightly turned too far clockwise. yep another pocket part to collect from the yard. let us know if you need a used one.
  21. he just doesn't know how to do the math right. nor can he read the build date. damn thats a nice truck.
  22. i would like nothing more than to see it drive looking like that.:) did you knock on the door? i want interior pics and engine bay pics BAD! i bet if you slapped a known working carb and dist with some new gas it would fire up. you never know they could be ready to scrap it any minute. nooooo. looks like it got hit with a hydro seeder.
  23. thanks guys i appreciate it. i just came from from wally world, did another quick browse.
