  1. Thanks Wayno, I'll check that when I pull the lines off the carb. There's probably a correlation here. Who knows how long this beast was sitting before I ended up with the truck. I'll see if I can check that. I actually haven't run an entire tank of fuel through it yet. I would like to get the Spain made Webber rebuilt, its better to have a backup part that's actually usable...
  2. Keeping the customs dog from looking under your Delorean...
  3. Yes.... yes they are... especially divorce attorneys.... But you can always build some crazy shit when you get your footing back.
  4. Yeah, I'm thinking the carb needs a rebuild. It's an Italian made Weber 32/36, but they do go bad. Also there's some cracking on the fuel line around the connection to the carb and filter. I'm gonna replace that small section of hose and see what's what. I kinda think it might just be bad gas. But having it timed properly, new distributor that isn't some jerry rigged shit, plugs, wires that weren't "home made" all might help. I notice that the boot on cylinder 4 keeps working it's way off the spark plug... so... I'm gonna deal with these things, then deal see if my random flooding clears up. If not, I'll drop my Made in Spain carb off for rebuild, and swap out the Italian one for the Spanish one.
  5. No. I'm medically retired out of the military and the police. I grew up in difficult circumstances, to put it mildly. None of my scarring occurred with my consent.
  6. Nah, I just make very solid eye contact and wait for them to look away when I see that smug look. When you get stared down by someone you assumed was weaker than you because you thought they'd slashed a wrist, just to find out they can stand you down without saying shit... you'll never call them on it. I used to have to do that at work a lot after I got back into the civilian job market in an office where I couldn't wear a watch over it.
  7. There's a stigma about tattoo locations as well. Honestly, fuck that. If you'd like a tattoo on your low back, get one. You do you. I have four scars on my face from a dog bite. That's why I prefer a beard. The scars around my eyes and nose are pretty obviously from fighting. So, if someone really looks at me.. they'll know. I'd have to get the scar tissue there cut out, and nope, nope, nope. The four on my cheeks though... I used to get teased about bad as a kid. The scarring in my right cheek causes noticeable dimpling and an unsystemetric mouth movement. The Air Force wanted to fix it, but I told them no. If I'd had surgery to fix it when it happened it wouldn't be a big deal, but that was 30 years ago.
  8. Lol, actually that's a defensive wound. However people always looked at me fucked up because they assumed it was self inflicted.
  9. Hmm... so.. driving today it would just... flood out and die randomly. Inconsistent with throttle pressure, gear, or speed. Just driving along and spudder, die, I'd turn the key to restart it and it would fire right up. Then randomly repeat this. I put fresh premium in it, which is when this started. So, I dunno. I'm gonna change out some parts I got from the gatofather, and then play with this some more. I'll let you know what I find out.
  10. True, I got my forearm done because people have preconceived notions about scars as well. Same with the leg tattoos I have. I'd rather have ink that displays aspects of who I am, than scars that I had no control over. Very few people ask about my ink, and I brush it off as being ex-mil. A lot more people asked me about my scarring.... or if they saw it they'd make the wrong assumptions... so this works much better.
  11. I have a friend that carries a chopped down PTR in a camera tripod case. It isn't exactly inconspicuous, but you don't think "gun" when you see it. I have a 442 for ultra conceal situations. It's an air weight with an Apex trigger kit. I passed the duty carry quals with it after much difficulty. I realized I needed to index shoot it without doing the "sight alignment, site picture" after the 15 yard mark and just trust my hands and draw. At 50 yds it really feels like you're throwing rocks. Its honestly best for contact shots while grappling. Most shootings are at very close range. That's really where the 642/442 show their true strengths. If I have to be up close like that, I'd rather have a revolver. It's not hard to nullify an auto.
  12. I bought it when I was 15. I worked on it everyday for over 6 months because when I got it, it was a wrecked piece of shit. I did everything myself, bodywork, paint, engine swap.... back before forums or the Internet. It was in my dads name because a 15 year old can't legally drive. After I finished it, I drove the shit out of it but he always claimed he'd lost the title and wouldn't sign it over. When I left for boot camp, fucker sold it and kept the money. I didn't know it was gone until I finally went home after a tour overseas...
  13. Could you imagine what he could do with this?
  14. Nice work Hobo. The last ink I got was my right knee. NBD because it's all organic human material. Easy 5 hour session. However, while I was there a dude came in for an appointment to get the Deathly Hallows triangle thing tattooed on his taint. He gave up about 10 seconds in. My artist and I were laughing so hard we had to take a break. (Aside: who do you show your taint to?) I've got both knees, a forearm and a shoulder done. In June I'm doing my chest. So far they're all scar covers. Hands down the worst pain is the vibration going over my titanium parts that are securing through bone. The rest of it hasn't been as bad as my baseline pain in certain badly damaged parts of my body. So I can sit in the chair for hours telling jokes, and mouthing off because... I mean, why not? The one on my forearm was only bad right on the tendons that operate the hand because they're so close to the surface at the wrist.
  15. Actually Eric, as you can see this was the best advice I could give on the topic, mixed with a clever dig at Gato who is an actual good mechanic. I did this to show you what pulling the engine and losing the funist part, driving the Datsun, slows things down. I've seen a lot of people in the car culture fallout, and lose that drive because of extensive down time. I just don't want to see you stuck in that sinkhole because I'd love to see this 620 in person in 2022, when it mirrors your vision for the end product. Yep, no harm no foul. I just try to keep people out of rabbit holes I've found myself in before. In the end, you make 100% of the final decisions on your truck. You do you, most of us will back you regardless of what you want to do to your truck.
  16. You could also try increasing the bump stops. This means when your passenger is in the truck you'll have virtually no suspension travel. She'll ride rough shod, but you won't run the risk of slashing a tire. The other ideas involve chopping the bed back to give you more clearance, lifting the truck up another inch, and possibly running bags or another type of suspension in the rear.
  17. Yes sir, the end links and shocks all came with new hardware, which is good because I actually had to hacksaw the old ones off due to corrosion. The misc nut is probably one off the links. I picked up tools, took pics then swept up my mess afterwards. So you'll usually see debris in my shots.
  18. You know... there are old timers on here that are speaking from experience on the "build the engine on the stand" while leaving a running one in the truck. It gives you perspective and it will help keep you interested in the build. For instance, I have a non-Datsun project that I recreationally drive. I have a completely done engine on a stand, ready to go in whenever. In the meantime I'm killing the stock engine learning how to properly drive the thing. So, I have the best of both worlds. I got to build the next level motor, and, I get to enjoy the vehicle so I don't burn out on the project. I hear some of these guys take the running engines out of their Datsuns, for alternator changes... just to put some paint on them and show off how fancy poppa smurf blue they can be... all while having a bad ass project engine slowly maturing on the side.
  19. Welcome to the board. I'm dealing with the same rusted crap on my build, it's just part of 620 ownership. You'll get there.
  20. Have you checked the frame? I'd like to see a ratsun style roadster. The only ones I've seen are too shiny.
  21. Keep it coming. I'd like to see you and VTR race.
  22. My first real project car was one of these.... I love them.
