I served in a number of mixed units, I've fought side by side with women in various capacities. They're equally as capable of necessary violence as men. What they lack in strength they can make up for in technique. I've been out shot, and slammed by more than one female, although my all time favorite was getting tossed around by Mesha Tate. I just happened to show up at a gym she was training at, and got rotated in as a punching bag. As far as women in fatigues, military uniforms aren't especially flattering on anyone.
