  1. I was fortunate my dad had a open mind about cars as when i wanted my first car my dad would not let me get just anything. I wanted a 240Z and he loved it. He sprayed the car for me and helped me swap a 280 motor when the 240 motor died. I really missed that car. learned a lot off that car on top of learning to drive. It was because of my dad's do it yourself background from that era helped me enjoy cars and life lessons that came with it.
  2. those times were good to learn a lot. My father had many cars and for a guy who came from China he really became very americanized. he loved chevy's and fords. i still have the blazer he bought when I was 6. he did everything on that car as those days they did not go to dealers to have cars fixed. they did it themselves or called it backyard mechanic. This was before the internet or computers in general.
  3. I have used King and ACL for hondas and they worked good. as for the rings never used thosee but I would feel they would work.
  4. Yeah i remember parts of the 70's and for sure the 80's. I remember being able to play outside on the street football and biking anywhere. No need to pay for TV and lots better cartoons. people seemed more creative with their hands versus using a computer. my first car was 73 240Z. lots of fun with that car.
  5. sad things is he is posting from my area but then again it is on Craigslist. lots of bogus people on there to begin with
  6. I personally would not believe it makes that much power. I would need to see it dyno or pull some track #'s the specs he put on it would not even show maybe 100 hp. save the 1000 dollars for something else

    L series efi

how about using the SU manifold and getting the SU style ITB's from TWM and running a stand alone ecu?
  8. This thread is long but I will try to input some more also get all your testing tools and have them at hand. when the situation happens test fuel pressure with either a pressure guage or even open up the line after the fuek filter to see if fuel comes out. sometimes if you can take off the rail with the injectors on it to see if fuel comes out of the injectors onto a rag. of course be careful. if this all checks out check for spark by simply pulling a plug with the wire on it and cranking to see if spark is there. If you have fuel and spark you may have the issue of bad ecu or bad relay for the ecu. does the ecu show trouble codes. if so read what they are and correct thosee issues. Other things to check just to make sure your bases are covered are crank time and cam timing are correct. i have seen some cars that are off by a bit not start show symtoms like what you have. pretty much what you are doing is testing and deducting what may the basic issue. all a motor needs is air which you most likely have, fuel and spark. Fuel injection is good to have but can be a pain when issues arise but carbs can be a pain also.
  9. I bet all three kits will work fine. you have to find out what spring rates they come with. I would say you would get more support from ground control than ermish and then T3 may be a tie. The T3 kit is basically a ground control kit which it may be using a Toyota corolla GTS rear AGX shock. not a bad kit for the money. I agree you could make your own kit buy doing research if you want to save money or have the feeling of making your own stuff. that is what I will be doing soon.
  10. I get if every so often or lots of compliments or people asking the year and remembering when they were younger and seeing a buddy with one or how hot they are.
  11. Best bet is to pull the trans to check physically. if you have pressure and no leaks and see the slave move sounds like maybe the pressure plate collapsed or broke or something is making it simulate like it is depressed letting you change gears with the car on.
  12. nice clean engine bay. good start. I say go for the trans swap and suspension refresh and upgrade. welcome.
  13. I see dumbasses all the time who run shops who don't warn people to keep their distance. so many nosey people also. I guess better them than me.
  14. where in san francisco are you? i believe I saw a post you are near mission and silver? I am in Ingleside near City College.
  15. my choice would be a super turbo with 2" piping with a resonator. like to fly under the radar and not sound so obvious. it will let the engine make enough power.
  16. no worries. I would say on the budget side you can get a dohc swap and if you do it right should be reliable and fun on the street. start there and then move onto other things like turbo or Nitrous. KA's are cool as you can get parts here and if you ever get stuck you can get parts a regular parts store. believe me a stock motor with minor mods like intake and header can yield about 140-150 whp and almost that much in usable torque. that much in a light car you will have fun.
  17. just some thoughts or ideas If you want a weber call pierce manifolds in Gilroy. would you think or looked at maybe adapting a holley to your motor since it is pretty big displacement wise like maybe a Holley 380 cfm carb. couldn't you use a Lseries style matchbox dist? wouldn't that work without any ecu? If you are going to carbureted I have seen some use a carter electric fuel pump. question? was your truck fuel injected to begin with? if so would the efi and manifold work for the new motor? if so why would you not want to keep that to run the new motor? just asking as I am not sure about the specs of what you have but would like to help with ideas
  18. was the relay you changed new? I assume the ecu was used. maybe the you got is bad? If the relay was used maybe that one was bad also.
  19. If on budget I would go KA motor but is possible get the DOHC over Sohc cam. SR motors are tough and can take a lot and respond well to mods. I like the SR non turbo but that is more of my personal feeling. issues is SR parts are not easy to get stateside. Turbo is great but only for those that have a bit more of a budget to afford turbo accessories. A 510 with any of these motors would be lots of fun. If you would like another choice consider the S2000 motor as lots of support and good power and very flexible motor.
  20. yeah tough call but if you mod it nice that is fine. hell it is your car. do what you want. I guess most mod 510's as they are used to seeing that. Datsuns have a good racing heritage and most are used to seeing the old school race car look
  21. nice find. happy bday to that. I would keep it stock and get something else for you and your son to work on.
  22. do you have a pic of the baking sheet shaped like your head. I would not say you are anal. just particular.
  23. I can match for the most part any prices out there. the links given to me are helpful as I can't see what all others are selling I am using percentages to determine some prices. as for the links sent I can match those prices. I don't charge tax or it is included in the price but I do have to charge shipping. I can have the coilovers shipped on my own as I am willing to fork out the money to keep on hand just can't keep every spring on hand to accomodate the rates people want. I would say I have basic kits and then 250lb or 300 lb and maybe in between.. As for shocks I pretty much have them on hand and would be shipped by me. reason is I used to have a shop but I am not doing as a business anymore but have connections to get the parts so if anything I can pass deals onto others. I will try to match prices but I am open to seeing what is out there and try to help. I do have or can get other items like other shocks like KYB,Koni, exedy clutch kits, repair parts like ball joints and tie rods and bushings. I also get some stuff from japan as i go there every so often but mainly small items I can fit in my bag like window felt or lights or shift knobs and steering wheels etc. I am rrying to go to japan every 3 months to get items but not not easy with work. Believe I am not making big money on this stuff. just keeping busy and helping others and meeting cool people along the way. I just really like datsuns or cars and the events and people I have met or will meet. as for rear coilovers I am not ever using cheap parts. I always use or make good items. It just takes time to put something together and test and come correct to offer to public. I will not sell or release anything if it is not worth the time or trouble. I will let you all know. I am working at a mild pace as I do have a day job but I spend time in the garage and out on the street and autox events to test items. Thanks benzo
