Dear Ratsun,
I still talk about you everyday, recruit, reference, take pride in, and accept as my comradery.
Now I'm not going anywhere. :) I've been through a few hard times since joining Ratsun, moved to Portland for the Datto scene, and everyone has always been there to help, so I thank you.
The new additions I speak of is a mini me! My daughter Hayli Young was born June 6th, this year, and let me tell you.... she is a baby Datsun lover if I've ever seen one. She goes everywhere with me, sits in her little red convertable car walker in the garage as I work away. We scout out Datsuns together, so I thought it would be appropriate to have that mom Datsun.
Those of you that know me, know I have my Z, and my 620, now a family car.... please welcome my 1968 4 door 510. (68 has been my favorite one since I saw Mikey's)
I have been looking at 4 doors or a goon for 9+months now, and in my neighborhood, there's been a 510 under a cover for years. We asked if they'd sell it months ago, and it was a very sentimental car. The man I spoke to had learned to drive in this car, his dad bought it new off the lot, here in Santa Barbara in 68. The mans other brother also learned to drive in it. The body is straight as it gets!!! Not an exaggeration.!!! This little 510 experienced so much love.... and wax, and polish that its original light blue is worn down to the bone on the corners from too much buffer over the years. The interior is shot, and they'd put BMW seats in it back in the day, due to the lowback seats being "unsafe"... (don't worry I already have another set lined up). Just ordered a new carpet kit. Its got a rebuilt L16, with a weber and header. He also has the original L16 that has a warped head, and transmission that comes with it, along with stacks of Datto SWAG, 3 stacks of old magazines, brochures, and datsun performance books. (droooooool :w00t: ) and a dual SU Carb setup that he always wanted to put on and never got a chance. Unfortunately his health enables him to drive (my heart goes out to him, pure blooded datsun enthusiast, looses his motor skills.) and he saw how much I loved it so decided to give it another home, with me (for a price of course). To see how much joy this guy has in talking about his car, and passion is the best reward. He will be coming over from time to time to see his dream live on, I'm on call for any time he wants to go for a drive, and he will be accompanying me to some meets and shows. This is a win win situation for us both. The car ran when parked, so we will see what the datto gods have in store.
And now for the pics because I know you guys haven't changed  . Sorry in advance it was raining buckets today, so I didn't take the cover all the way off, I would have been soaked. But I promise lots and lots of more pics soon!!! Here ya go! (BTW the prius is NOT mine. The car is still in front of his house until Monday when I can go register it so I can park it in front of my house legally)
