  1. going with zx strut and brake upgrade gives you better braking, shorter body strut housing for more travel if you do go lower, beefier spindle and not too expensive of a mod to do versus staying stock and then later wanting to get better brakes. if you do the swap I would suggest getting bump steer spacers to correct camber or buy camber kits if you plan on going low but may not need to get camber kits as the rear of the wagon can only go so low before you have to do major mods like cutting drivetrain tunnel to clear driveshaft. Jun's wagon and my wagon are very similar in stance and if you go any lower you will need to do some modding which once you go that far is not returnable. I personally do not like cutting up cars but that is my opinion. I highly suggest coil overs even for a street car. much more you can do tuning wise and changing of spring rates.
  2. I have seen some guys make one out of like a small shock absorber like used in bikes or similar. I have seen it in japan on some 510's and am wondering if I can make or buy one to minimalize engine motion. I would not want to use or makes solid engine mounts as that would send vibration throughout the car.
  3. I am know whiz at wheel offsets but looks like you have a wheel meant more for a FWD car. you need to use a wheel with not so much of a positive offset. I personally don't like using spacers either. for me I am using 7.5 width rims on the back of my wagon that are 14" diameter and have no issues. the fronts are 14x6.5 but I never looked at the offset as I got the wheels off a corolla gts and fit perfect for me but the ssr website shows a +7 offset front and +6 offset rear.
  4. do the bolt holes for the 210 unit match up to the 510?
  5. well if I come across more I will let you know. now if you want the jdm style one like I have which is clearer lens and brighter let me know as I can still get them but the price will be substantially more as I get them from japan. Benzo
  6. I wanted to get away from the Honda crowd because I saw so much bashing and trash talking by internet punks. If members have a issue with someone it is better to either bring it up with that person on a personal level than air it out for everyone to see. I like the datsun crowd as they are normally a more older and mature group of enthusiast who like the cars and like sharing stories and tips and resources about these cars. seems like lately a lot of the honda crowd or that crowds mentality has been coming over to here and sometimes the realm and making it hostile and bringing down the scene.
  7. sorry metalmonkey I sold it to AZhitman
  8. thanks AZhitman for the purchase of the dome light. it is on its way to you.
  9. I have only one now. you should see the pic on flickr under benzo510 or IM me your email
  10. haha Nice. for sure if I come your way at least dinner is on me.
  11. Yeah if you can make it do it. well worth it in my opinion but on top of that japan is great to see other areas. I plan on making this show every year as well as the auto salon. on my next trip I am trying to hit shops more. some are just hard to get to as you have to get a car to get to. I like meeting others at the shows who are not all about trying to prove what they know. I just like sharing the stories and cool work that had or has been done or being worked on. I am also trying to go to more shows here stateside or go to so cal to make the JCCS show. I have missed everyone of those since its inception. looks like a great show.
  12. Yeah that show was great. very chill. not a teeny bopper show but more enthusiast or true collectors and older crowd who seem to be able to afford to work on these cars. the presentations were clean and simple. not a bunch of girls walking around and dancing which is not bad but it takes away people getting up close and seeing the details. I was lucky to sit in that Z. He was nice to let me do that I guess since i came all the way from the US to check out the show I guess cause when I tell people why I came they were like amazed I traveled so far.
  13. Thanks. if you know what style or sizing I can get for you or have it shipped to you from my friend there.
  14. you can see more pics of the car on my flickr account benzo510 or myspace page under garagelife and photos tab
  15. Yeah I am sort of addicted. I just picked up one more cap from New Era Japan. I need to get a cap holder to protect them. I am particular of the hats I get though. you got a pic of your collection?
  16. from what it looked like they made front fenders, light pockets, bumpers, rear hatch, cowl, battery cover lid and misc out of carbon fiber and the main body is overlay over the original body. very clean work. you can see on my pics that one pic shows the seam overlay near the hatch area on the roof area.
  17. I just got back from Japan and was able to attend the NOS 2 Day show in yokohama. If you love old school imports try to make this show. I was fortunate to meet owners from star road and rocky auto owner and he let me sit in his carbon fiber Z. that was awesome. if you want to see pics check out my flickr site under benzo510 or myspace under garagelife. Benzo
  18. will do. I actually was going to try to go to Rocky auto tomorrow but have to see how the day goes. I for sure will take plenty of pics from the show and of this car and get as much details as I am looking to build a Z in the future. I will post on my flickr site for all to view when I get back next week
  19. pics look awesome. I am about to see this car in person this saturday in yokohama and can't wait to see this and other old school cars.
  20. from what I remember or heard is the 79-81 zx's have a different rotor caliper set up. I believe the caliper size between the years are different and the early years used solid rotors and the later years used vented rotors. I emailed my guy for a price on hawk pads in case you have the correct years under hawks listing
  21. I'll look into it. have to double check to see if there was a difference between calipers for the years made.
  22. I am using stock rotors now with axxis/repco pads. Don't they are that awesome. I am going to be switching to powerslots and hawk pads soon and will post response later. if you need pads or rotors let me know I may be able to get you a good deal. I do suggest to get stainless braided brake lines. That helped a lot for me and all cars I have done in past datsun or not. I have heard of switching calipers to like a toyota 4 piston or something but have not tried it yet as I don't drive my car much to spend time on it and also not sure if it will clear my wheels. I really like the hawk pads on other cars I have tried. they hold up well and brake well.
  23. from what I have read and seen and experienced some. if you have a stock L20 I would just stick with a down draft or at the most go 38mm su's or dual mikuni 40's. Webers seem to be a bit of a pain to tune.
  24. sorry Brian to hear about the thievery. not cool in any way but I guess that is society now. every body is hurting and people are doing a lot of petty crimes that make honest folks pay out but karma does exist and they will get theres in the end
