I've been working out fuel issues for a few months now. A dirty filter will cause your float bowl to run dry at high load and cause you to run very lean / backfire. Check all fuel lines for cracks or holes. At higher rpms it will start to pull more air than fuel through the lines. This was the line behind my filter. Two days ago the soft line from the pump to fuel rail had a hole and was causing me to pull air also.

The one I was looking at had low compression between two, sides, of the thingy. I was considering it but the rebuild kits were expensive and I knew if I had a rotary that I'd be rebuild quite often.

Get a FWD Sentra etc. for the snow. We don't get much snow here but when we did we drove the 95' Cutlass and it never had a problem. We were the town taxi for a straight week.
