Rubberman
Has anyone put the speedo cluster out of a 521 into a 620? I'm gonna get the wiring diagrams for both and go from there, but figured I'd ask incase someone has tried and did it or found that it want work. Thanks Quote Link to comment
fisch
Never seen it done, but would love to see it! I've often though a 411 dash would be kick-ass in a 521. Quote Link to comment
Rubberman
Yeah fisch, I like the looks of the 521 cluster, just cooler looking than the 620. I'll have to customize the original 620 bezel or make a new one. Quote Link to comment
fisch
Yeah I don't know how it'd get in there. And you loose the option of a tac or built in clock (though there was a rare 521 clock.) I would be very curious if the whole dash would swap in! 520 dashes were all metal so you'd never have to worry about cracking. Think how cool it'd be when someone walked up to your 620 and peeked inside and were like "No way!" I've seen some mini truck guys use 50's dashes in their s-10s and stuff! Quote Link to comment
tdaaj
i've seen a functioning 620 dash in a 521 Quote Link to comment
Rubberman
I need to locate the wiring diagram for 68 521. I'm gonna be searching, but if someone knows of a link to one and could put it up for me, I'd appreciate it. I've got all the stuff on the 620, but no info on 521 stuff. Quote Link to comment
Rubberman
found the wiring diagrams for 520 and 521. I know nothing about these trucks. Would a 1968 be a 520 or a 521? I'm looking at the diagrams for both and they look the same at the cluster. Quote Link to comment

Rubberman
I got it datzenmike, I'm working on it right now. I'm pretty sure it'll work. I'll post something when I get done. Quote Link to comment
Rubberman
Got everything worked out on which wires goes with each other. I've got to check on the speedo cable. Quote Link to comment
Rubberman
Here's pics of the 521 cluster after cleaning it up and painting the trim. I also put these pics in my build thread. Quote Link to comment
Justin
Shouldn't be any problems at all- You just have to disconnect black the plug thing on the 620 side and install the wires 1-by-1 on the 521 gauge side. (they used the same color wires and same plug, but a different order) As I recall, if you want to run the black plastic surround for the 521 gauges, you will either need to recess the top of the dash, or make "flares" covering the sides (or both). (the speedo cable will fit) Can't wait to see pics of it installed! Quote Link to comment

Nice job. Looks good. I might have to do something like this when I swap my dash. Thanks for sharing. Quote Link to comment

Couldn't find a specific build thread of yours. What I'm curious is if you have a BEFORE shot of the cluster. The AFTER is very nice. Quote Link to comment
Rubberman
ppeters, my build thread is under project and the thread is 77 kc 620. And no, I didn't take a before pic of the cluster, should have. The chrome trim was rusted and pitted (painted orange) I took the glass off and cleaned the inside very carefully. ppeters914
Oh, nothing more? Reason I ask is that the 520/520 and 411 use the same cluster (same part number). I have mine completely disassembled. Tried to brighten the pointers with an orange flourescent marker, but it wouldn't stick. I then painted it w/ Testor's model paint, but it's not real smooth. Probably just live with it for now until I can find another one in nicer condition. Quote Link to comment
Rubberman
I didn't try and touch up any of the paint under the glass. I figured I couldn't get it looking original, so I just cleaned it. There's fading on the speedo lines, but no biggy. Overall it was in pretty good shape. Quote Link to comment
