freaky510
I have heard rumors about the M2 datsun motors and was wondering if their was any truth behind them. I have came up empty on a google and forum search. So i thought i would ask. I have seen many L16 m2's and this is the first L20 m2 i have seen. I have been told that the M2 had a little more love put in to them they intended for race use they came balanced and had bigger ports and a little more hp output.Like i said these are the rumors i have heard can anyone comfirm any of this or fill me in on the truth about the M2 motors. thanks freaky Quote Link to comment

datsunaholic
I've seen (and have) M2 blocks, both L16 and L20B. The M2 blocks I have are both NAPS-Z castings machined as L-series (difference is negligible). They were all replacement engines; I first thought the L20B M2 block was a 1980 L20B from a 720 but I'm now thinking they may have been factory replacement blocks made in the early 80s. Phlebmaster
This gets me thinkin. I have a "U95" on my L20b. What does that mean? I did have one that had a "U67" (I think) casted on it. Mine does not have the M2 on it but my L16 I think did. Edited January 20, 2009 by Phlebmaster Quote Link to comment
Phlebmaster
I found some info here. http://www.ozdat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1711&view=next M3 (Z24) block rumoured to be slightly weaker than the M1 (L16, L18) and M2 >(L20b, Z20, Z22) blocks Edited January 20, 2009 by Phlebmaster Quote Link to comment

But I still don't know what it means. :D Quote Link to comment
freaky510
Yea i have never found any documented info on the M2 blocks. All i know is hear say.I have just had a few non ratsun people tell me that they where diffrent. And 1 guy i talked with a while back was all up on him self because he "scored" a L20 M2 and started in on some crazy story about how they had better this and that.blanced, weighted crank diffrent cam better oil pump and all.I myself with my pos measuring tools have found no real diffrence.Maybe it is the combo of head and block that make the diffrence. The motor i have came with no head so i would not know the casting of it. thanks All Quote Link to comment

Cuts metal like mad
far as I know all l20b cranks are forge, fully counter balanced... Rods are forged... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Just found out yesterday that not all L16s were counterbalanced wtf? Thought all Ls were. 1 Quote Link to comment
Cuts metal like mad
It was either the early or late L16s that were, I want to say the late ones since that's when the 510 went to 2.5gt Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Probably early without. As I was told the fully was available as a 'high performance' part. Like other race proven parts it may have found it's way into production later. Quote Link to comment
DISLEXICDIME
is is the late l16 with the m2 on it it also has the crank vent like an l20b instead of the tube sticking out the side like early l16 and l18 i will take a pic of mine when i get a chance Quote Link to comment
