Roman Tasel
did they ever make diesels from the 620? Quote Link to comment
Bandit240
Not that i know of. I dont think diesels were put into the little trucks until around 81. I would love to have a diesel 620 running on WVO. Quote Link to comment
kennysgreen280z
Yeah, dream truck for me would be a TDI powered 620. There was a LD20 (diesel L20) built, im not sure if it came in anything this side of the pond though. IIRC the 720's came with the SD22 correct? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yeah the '81 720 had an SD22 in it. There was a lift truck varient. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
I've always heard that SD22 was a superb engine. Shouldn't be too difficult to fit into a 620. Quote Link to comment
Roman Tasel
i agree with kennysgreen280z. I have been thinking about that for the past couple days about a tdi engine fiting into a 620. Quote Link to comment
kennysgreen280z
Acme adaptors makes a kit to mate it to a toyota transmission, so it would be pointing the right way at that point in time. I dont know how many different axle ratios are available for the 620, but in VW land the TDI's you want to end up right around 2200-2500 rpm @ highway speeds. the main reason I havent gone past 'dreaming' about this setup is the cost of your average used motor set. $3k plus is the going rate... Anyways, its a fun dream. Quote Link to comment
Bandit240
Ive got a diesel motor that ive been wondering how hard it would be to install in a 620 truck. Its a Perkins 60hp 4cyl marine engine. Ive got it figured out how to install it, but i can't figure out how to mate a gearbox to it. Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
One of the reasons you didn't find Diesel in Nissan products earlier is that for some reason Nissan gave an exclusive North American distributorship to Chrystler. Importers used to import old London Austin Taxis, order a Nissan Diesel from Chrystler and retrofit the Taxis. They sold many to Arizona resort hotels as customer airport pickup vehicles. banzai510(hainz)
there were nissan desiels in International Scouts. A guy at works had one. He was MR USA then he said he had a nissan motor then I was all over him, Like a chicken on a June Bug!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
I remember just a few years after the 720 diesels appeared, a used engine was worth more than the rest of the truck combined...I recall $8,000 but that couldn't be right, could it? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
I'm watching Discovery Channel right now, and he says "1982 Datsun pickup, DIESEL", the Datsun is in Bellingham, WA... a silver 720 that runs biodiesel (making biodiesel is a dirty job...) Quote Link to comment
mike
http://www.supermotors.net/vehicles/...y/media/598505 This guy has a 1.9 TDI (I think thats the big one) and hes got a few mods done to it. If anybodys ever tried turning 40 inch boggers then this video is actually pretty damn impressive. Ill bet it would make a 620 scoot with the right gearing. Heres the build thread http://www.alaska4x4network.com/showthread.php?t=8144&page=12 Quote Link to comment
snail
the first 620 i ever bought had an sd22 in it and it was floor shift, not fast either, dont know if it was put in by the previous owner or not Quote Link to comment
snail
thort i shuld put the link on of my 620 so you could see the deisel motor on page 1 and on page 3 look at the radiator support panel, its not straight across like the petrol ones, http://www.datsun.co.nz/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2295&st=0&sk=t&sd=a Quote Link to comment

snail
[/img] and the recessed radiator support panel - you can kinda see it here Quote Link to comment
Bandit240
We had the recessed radiator supports here when the L20b got stuck in our trucks. It was done to fit a larger radiator to keep the L20b cool. You can see it here on my 78 620. Quote Link to comment
snail
wish it was like that for all of them, all the others here have a straight across support panel with no recess, Quote Link to comment
