Speedo cable

Recommended Posts

I am not running one because I have a gps speedometer. I see it’s leaked some, will it continue leaking? Do I need to find a way to plug it?

I cut the speedometer cable and slid the cast piece shown on far left off. Filled the open end with JB Weld. When hard I screwed it on to keep dirt out and any oil in. Worked just fine.

Thanks Mike, was hoping to not cut a perfectly good cable but it is what it is…

Nissan actually has a factory PLUG, iirc it was for the early 720 4WD, cuz the speedo pick up was in the transfer case!  We were making a plug on the lathe, for our vintage race Z cars, that did not use a speedo....................but don't forget, you need a "groove" cut in, for an oring.  Might as well use the factory oring, same as with speedo housing vs 720 4WD plug!

I’ve already cut the cable and plugged it with jb weld. Will drive it to work tomorrow and check for leaks…

There are also aftermarket billet plugs - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/185148903108

I wonder if DP racing is still making them...

I don't know, but his website was still up, last time I checked.

Yep - https://www.dpracing.co/

He beat me to the punch on the brake fluid reservoir. The one he sells is very similar to the ones used in the BRE cars. I had planned on making them to sell.
