wayno
I personally would not try to start one with a crank, engines now are advanced in timing to run properly, I just don't want it kicking my ass by firing before I made it past TDC, back when there were no starters(in the 20s?) they had a switch to retard the timing when starting it. Stoffregen Motorsports
I've never tried to hand crank a motor. That's because I've known people who have gotten hurt by doing it. If it has a starter motor, I'm good. Read Steinbeck's East of Eden. A couple of the characters keep having issues with trying to figure out how to crank the car to start it. Quote Link to comment
320 Newb
I've hand started mine a bunch. Twice the crank start saved me when I had dead batteries. On the E1 it's easy. On the rebuilt J15 with high compression it's hard. 1 Quote Link to comment
