Stuck Seat Rails

How do you free up stuck seat rails?

A while back, I removed the driver’s side rail from the car and got it moving with a hammer and lots of cleaner. I greased it with moly grease before reinstalling but in hindsight I should have used white lithium.

My current plans are to remove both rails and soak them for a few days in degreaser, hose off, wipe dry, ensure they’re freely moving and finish by lubricating the track and rollers with white lithium.

Open to suggestions.

Great tip, thanks! It ended up being a combination of decades old gunk and slightly bent (sagging) rails causing them to hang up.

Re: molasses, I used that to de-rust a fuel tank for the same reason you said. It works really well, just slowly. Just gotta watch out for the flash rusting!

Yep.  It’s always interesting using rust removal that gets washed off with water and wants to rust straight away!

I find the molasses is a great head start and then I use the milky rust converter that can be painted over or de ox it acid to treat the flash and then paint.
