Larsonian
I have a transmission from what I believe is a 521 truck, which has some sort of output flange. Which my driveshaft which is a slip yoke won’t fit into, is there a way to modify either the transmission or driveshaft or would I just need a different transmission? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The 521 flange bolts on. Unbolt the nut and tap the splined part off with something heavy. Your new driveshaft should slip right in. 1 Quote Link to comment
Larsonian
Oh I didn’t know it was that simple. Thank you much Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
While apart, replace the transmission rear seal and grease the seal lips before installing the new spline Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
isnt the mount part on the 521 different.??? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The J 13 520 and L521 were a slip in spline driveshaft. The '70 and up PL521 with L16 engine were a bolt on flange. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Would it be wise to cut the threads off? In other words, will the slip yoke engage all the splines with the threads in the way? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I guess it does stick out some. Sure, trim it off flush with the case. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Next suggestion - use a cutoff wheel, not a sawzall. 1 1 Quote Link to comment
iceman510
Hmmm, no going back after that. 1 Quote Link to comment
