five1oh
So I FINALLY decided to do something about my antenna since I purchased the factory replacement some time ago.............. I was very bummed I could not finish SHAKOTN in time for Datslocos and the night before I decided I would finally tackle the antenna and install the factory drivers side fender badge I had. Well it took a while to get the panel out and ready and when I started installing I realized it would take MUCH more time than I had so I put the ugly black one back on..................except I only reinstalled the base LOL. Basically I need to make a bracket and with the tight space I didn't have the time to do it properly so I gave up. Anyways here are some pics I took.......look at that BEAUTIFUL original red paint under the panel  Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr 1 Quote Link to comment
five1oh
The morning of Datslocos I met up with Sergio (bluebird coupe) and Daniel Wu (Tanto) at a coffee shop in Oakland along with my friends Peter (gold 280z) and Naveed (silver Fairlady). We rolled together from there to Manteca for the show. Unfortunately I didn't get pictures and the drive was so fast (150kmh) I wasn't able to get roller shots. At the show a gentlemen wanted to shoot the cars so I got a few when that happened. I took my 2 year old son with me and he had a blast but unfortunately his 3rd birthday party was that afternoon so I wasn't able to enjoy the show at all. I literally didn't look at any cars and only picked up some parts before I had to leave. Next year my goal is to have the 510, Hako, and Fairlady there...... five1oh
Been driving the car quite a bit lately. I took it to the First annual NorCal Vintage Datsun meet a few weeks ago in Concord and I didn't even taken any pictures! five1oh
I took the Z out on a fun run with friends through the Berkeley mountains on Saturday: Unfortunately my friend with the silver Fairlady Z blew up his motor on the drive so we had to leave him once he got a tow truck booked (he had a passenger with him to so he wasn't alone LOL). I think he ran it too low on oil (it burns a bunch) and it developed a VERY loud rod knock. It is the stock L20A with triple Mikuni 40's I believe. After the drive we stopped at IN-N-OUT for lunch and then I invited the guys over to check out my 510 and get some pics together. Unfortunately Naveed is the photographer and his Z is the one that died so you will have to bear with my iPhone pics: Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr 2 Quote Link to comment

five1oh
So with the car sitting outside for 4 months while I reassembled "shakotn" the paint started to fade and the polish wore off. Since I decided I would be driving the Z to Laguna Seca for the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion this past Saturday I decided to re-polish the paint. It did great on the way there and back but of course I lost my drivers side emblem when I hit a big pothole driving home......thought it might stay but it didn't.... ? Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr I really wish I would've planned better and stayed in Monterey for the weekend because one day was not enough time. The whole day was EPIC but I wish I could've stayed longer. While there my favorite experience was meeting the owner of Victory 50 and talking to him through the help of a Japanese photographer that helped translate for me. I got to tell him about my cars and show him the progress and thank him for making all of the parts available and supporting the Hako's (which of course I have purchased tons of parts from his company in the past couple years). Another highlight was meeting Josh Martin from JDM Legends along with Mauricio from CIOS Restoring the Dream. I spent at least 45 minutes with him talking about my hako project and learning new things and exchanging info. five1oh
I have been driving the Z a ton over the last few months but if you have been following my 510 thread you will see that I had some issues with my Flickr account. All has been resolved so I have been uploading pics and will try to bring you up to speed. In late October 2018 I took the Z on a fun run to Mt. Umhumnum in the South Bay and then over to Boulder Creek. I had a blast but I have to admit I pulled over and puked half way through. I get motion sickness and normally I am ok when driving but this time around I was pushing it hard up to the summit on Mt. Umhumnum and I am guessing that coupled with the normal exhaust fumes got me to start feeling a little nauseous. In addition all of the cars respectfully asked me if I would bring up the rear. I happily obliged and cut my pace in half on the way to Boulder Creek. Even though I was at a slow pace I couldn't keep the contents of my stomach down lol. This is actually the first time I have ever gotten sick when I have been driving......many times as a passenger but this was a first for me. Anyways I had a great time other than that and the car worked flawlessly as always. five1oh
So this is an exciting post!!! I decided to take advantage of the T3 Black Friday sale and purchased a bunch of suspension parts. So the week after Thanksgiving I drove my car up to my brother in laws in Sacramento to create a YouTube video for my channel and then we went up to T3 to pick up my parts. Unfortunately as I write this post I am STILL waiting for LCA's and TC Rods....... five1oh
So I have NO clue why I didn't do this sooner but I picked up a couple cans of #905 spray paint from a paint shop. I guess the reason I waited was because I was planning on buying a BRE front lip..........who knows. Anyways got the spoiler and the paint and went to painting over the patch that Eric did last year. I was blown away by how close the paint match is and once I buff it out I bet it will be very hard to tell. I also painted and installed the front spoiler ? five1oh
So because I want to be careful to preserve the originality of my Z I picked up a set of 280 donor struts to build the coilovers. I also picked up a rear hatch because I want a rear spoiler but don't want to drill into mine. The series 1 hatch I got for free but it had some rust issues. Luckily my friend Eric had a nice 280 hatch that he is going to give me and graft in the series 1 vents as well as weld up the holes for the second shock. Other than that the hatches are identical and weigh the same. I also have the vertical lines defrost glass that came with the series 1 hatch so no one will be able to tell the difference. I received a z432 replica spoiler that Eric will be repairing and painting for me along with repainting my tail panels. ? five1oh
On Christmas Eve I hosted a drive up in my neck of the woods mobbing through amazing roads around Lake Berryessa. I was the leader of the pack and they dubbed me Rudolph lol. It was a nice change for me rather than driving an hour south to begin a fun run that Naveed organizes. The forecast called for rain starting around 11am and our route would have us ending near noon. The roads were wet but we made the most of it and actually hauled ass. The pavement is awesome with some banking to the turns and we had no incidents so it was a great day. I recorded a ton of footage for my YouTube channel as well. Here are some pics I took of the trip: Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr It was POURING down rain by the time I started heading home and my window was fogging up and my wiper arm over extended of the windshield so getting the last 10 miles home was super nerve-racking. I made it home in one piece though and then headed to my parents with the kids to celebrate Christmas. five1oh
So my friend Hung Vu has been reproducing some rare parts for the Z including the pillar emblems and also has been making reproduction dashes for the Z and 510. (Vintage Dashes on FB and IG). So he just finished making reproduction headlight covers. The quality is awesome!!! five1oh
So I decided to finally put the car in the air around January 20th because I thought the T3 parts would be done soon since I ordered them 11/20.......................... Well it is 2/13 and I'm still waiting. Anyways I started dismantling the car in preparation for the suspension. I need to transfer my brakes over to the new struts and because 280 struts are slightly different I purchased some new hard lines for the front calipers. In addition I decided I didn't want to mess with the rear brakes so I sourced some backing plates, stub axles, and bought all new rear brakes from Zcarsource. I contemplated going full disc but the factory brakes are adequate for what I am trying to do and I wanted the ebrake and calipers that fit under stock or 15" wheels. In addition it was much cheaper since my brakes were practically new. I still have to clean up and paint the caliper, rotor, and backing plate but I know it will turn out great: Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Edited February 13, 2019 by five1oh 1 Quote Link to comment
five1oh
So one thing I have ALWAYS wanted to do since I got the car was the exhaust..........and it HAD to be a Fujitsobo. Well I was able to buy a used one from my friend Hung and since I was doing the exhaust it snowballed into me having to have a header as well as triple mikunis..... Well I sourced the carbs (40's) a few months back for a great price through my friend Josel at Sidedraft Specialties. As he did with my 510 he is currently rebuilding them. I also sourced a heat shield from Datsun Spirit. CAN"T flipping wait to get this car back together. One thing you will notice is the exhaust system had the front flange cut off so I am going to remove the resonators to make it louder as well as fix that with a new flange. five1oh
So I finished removing the old suspension and got the new suspension on. As previously mentioned the goal was to not change anything that could not be reversed to stock in the future. Rather than pull apart the rear strut and LCA and drum brake setup I elected to pull it off as one piece and replace with new stock brakes, stub axles, etc, etc. Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr 1 Quote Link to comment
