89' Toyota Pickup *you guessed it, foul language*

So, this has been going on for a while, but I'll post up what I did.

 

 

1989 Toyota Pickup 204k mi, 5 spd, 4wd deluxe.

 

The tires had been fucking up, because the tires had been sitting for like 5 years. Dude bought it new then ended up giving it to his daughter who gave it back when she got outta college.

 

Put some new 32x12.50 on some nice Dick Cepek wheels.

 

Now I like to do some long range shooting and I do search and rescue. I needed to beef up some shit.

That two bit bullshit home grown bumper had to go. I picked up an All Pro Off-road front winch bumper and a Trail Gear rear.

 

 

They came raw so I finished them myself with some Rustolem auto paint. I think they came out well..

 

 

Little tune up with an LC Engineering Valve Cover and some shine.

 

 

KC Led Foglights and a Smittybuilt XRC 9500 # winch. It's not the fastest, but it definitely does the fucking job.

 

 

 

I upgraded to Corbeau Buckets that are hard as a motherfucking rock.... the white you're seeing in the harness hole is a seat heater. I put those in because you really don't need harnesses.... it's a street driven truck. But, you sometimes need to warm someone's ass up. Ask the last idiot I pulled out of the snow.

 

 

My exhaust manifold was cracked at the collector so I tossed this Trail Gear stainless on it. Honestly, totally worth it.

 

 

I have a shitload of new parts for it. Once it rotates in I'll get it all touched up. Other things, I have a power master alt, optima red top, H4 headlamp conversion, rancho shocks, blah blah blah.

Thanks, I have a new engine for it in the garage. I figured I needed a spare 22re, but the original runs so nice I haven't swapped it

Actually my last warn winch was too fast for such a light rig. I have come-alongs and a highlift jack with straps and all that jazz. I don't "wheel" it. I mostly just camp. I don't like to break my shit, which is what wheeling is...

 

I have a nice LC Engineering 22RE on a stand waiting to replace what it came with. Should give me a 30% increase in power with all the other shit.

I know what you mean on the wheeling, I chewed up a lot of CV axles on my Tacoma.

 

That build 22re will be a nice upgrade, the stock ones are always a little lacking in the trucks.

Had to replace the front suspension to match the rear. To get to the dampeners you have to remove the endlinks, which were shot. I suppose 28 years will kill rubber...

 

 

So I tossed in some Rancho dampeners, and I ordered a Rancho 5000 Steering Stabilizer which.... won't fucking fit. After screwing around with an Amazon seller who fucking returned it to me and refused a refund because I'd "opened it" I ordered an Old Man Emu unit out of... 'Straylia.

 

It drives sooooooo much different.... honestly it drives nicer than the last new car I bought in 2015...

Yes sir, the end links and shocks all came with new hardware, which is good because I actually had to hacksaw the old ones off due to corrosion. The misc nut is probably one off the links. I picked up tools, took pics then swept up my mess afterwards. So you'll usually see debris in my shots.

Welp, here we go.  Never trust anyone with a Koyo Radiator.  They’re for squares and losers.  
 

I pulled the 22RE out, in about June 2019.  It’s finally time to dig this project back out.  The transmission is a Marlin Crawler rebuild on a W-56C 5-speed.  Since the truck has been on the sidelines for 5 years, this build has fucking spiraled outta control.  The engine is a ATK rebuild I picked up in 2015, it looks fine on the outside, although I’ve adorned it with LCE’s favorite parts.

For instance, after I pulled the transmission out I realized how worn this shifted was.  And the thermostat housing “needed” to be cleaned and painted.  I’m willing to stay on that point straight into the hillside.  I decided to install the AP Off-road rock sliders I bought in 2015 when I bought the truck.  I found the receipt and… damn… shits gone up in price.  I coated it using spray can Raptor Lining I picked up off Amazon.  I meticulously followed prep work.

Checked this Koyo Rad out, which is why I talked shit about them.  I’m using new stock Toyota hoses because I live in a fucking desert.  I used to run silicone hoses but they let too much coolant out on 110 F+ days.  The battery case, seen on the left in the last picture is also interesting.  I think I should have painted a different color triple stripes, but hey, the build has changed a shitload since I painted it that way.

Needs a shroud to increase fan efficiency.

 

Electric fans. Clutch fans are ok at highway speeds where they max out and slip but there's lots of vehicle speed and air flow. Not so good at 5 MPH and churning up hill in the mud.  Clutch fans are limited by the air they move and then they slip. Perhaps an auxiliary fan for over temperature conditions.

Not much progress today, but it’s nice to have an Engine, trans, and x-fer case in the truck. As I pulled the seats out I found I’m missing bolts… this is a complicated issue as my “help” on this project is my ex.  Sooo, you know, do what you will with that.  
 

Anyone know where I can find one replacement seatbelt bolt, and three replacement seat bolts?
 

In case you’re curious these Corbeau suspension seats are, well, dogshit.  I’d rather sit on a cinder block.  They started breaking down within the first six months and began sun fading the first year I bad them.  I’ll be replacing them with something more comfortable but you’ll have to check back, no spoilers.
