Diego2o9
I was just wondering what head i can put on my z20 block with little to no modification. I was going to rebuild my z20 but the head has a whole in it Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Z20, z22, z24. These heads will go on without any modification. Anything else will require additional parts and/or further modification. Quote Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
Pictures of said "hole" please! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Look on the engine tag below the pass side hood hinge on the inner fender. Second line up from the bottom...Engine Z20(S) 1965...... if it says this.....You can only use, (should only use) a Z20(S) head from another '83-'86 720 to retain your stock compression. wayno
There are more years the Z20S engine was used, I have one out of a 80/81 510, was the same head used on all Z20s engines. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Negative. Waiting to hear back about what the engine tag says or if this is a swapped Z20 The 720 Z20S head has a much smaller combustion chamber, around 45cc. All other car Z20/Z22 and truck Z22/24 heads are 57cc. The truck Z20S head even had two small quench areas on each combustion chamber. (top and bottom, below) All other Z20/22/24 heads are larger and round..... Z20, z22, z24. These heads will go on without any modification.Anything else will require additional parts and/or further modification. While they will go on, the Z24 head has larger and differently shaped intake ports. The Z20/22 had smaller round ports so use the Z24 intake gasket for the best seal on a Z20/22 intake Quote Link to comment
