ZombieMachine
Sasquatch (rumored) dealer prep. Not terrorizing Jeeps right now due to needing drum brake hardware. Anyone know these rigs? Having a devil of a time hunting parts. 3 Quote Link to comment
sebpv
I dig the valve cover! 1 Quote Link to comment
Farmer Joe
is it still drums and 6 lug in the front? if it is, then it just takes stock 620 brake shoes like a 2wd would have.. most of these had brake conversions and custom 6 lug hubs for the dana 30 that they used... 1 Quote Link to comment
ZombieMachine
Nail on the head! It *is* a Dana 30 with Datsun drum brake hardware. The Ratsun Fairy lead me to a 620 corpse this evening. I pilfered the entire rear axle, brake hardware and all. Huzzah! Now... Anyone want the rest of the axle? Quote Link to comment
ZombieMachine
Clarification... Wheel popped off at 35mph. Skidded on the drum and backing plate about 50'. Ground the bittom flat, so that there isnt anywhere to attach the shoes. Finding that backing plate has been a nightmare. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
That's a bummer. Can't remember if there were mods to the backing plate to get it to work on a dana 30, but I'm sure there was. Nice looking truck. :) Quote Link to comment
ZombieMachine
Now to figure out how to get the hub off the donor axle... Anyone done this before? Wanna help? ;) Quote Link to comment
ZombieMachine
Bfh? Big fucking hammer? Alas, I am sledge-less... Quote Link to comment
hobospyder
What? You dont have a bfh? No tarage/shop is complete without one Or I just like hitting things with a big ass hammer, one of the two. Quote Link to comment
ZombieMachine
Of course i have a bfh! Its just a 2.5' length of steel pipe. I am lacking a *proper* sledge. All these pics online show fellows tapping away with shiny, fancy tools... Quote Link to comment
hobospyder
Go to harbour freight and get a 10 lb deadblow, should do you right. Quote Link to comment
ZombieMachine
Excellent idea! Alas, i'm stubborn and broke. Pardon me, i'm off to beat an axle. Etc.. Quote Link to comment
hobospyder
Lol have fun with that my lunch is over and I gotta get back on a plane Quote Link to comment
ZombieMachine
Thank you kindly :) Quote Link to comment
ZombieMachine
Hoisting the donor axle out of my other 620s bed is proving difficult by myself. Three ropes, block n tackle and me just isnt enough. Shit... Must.Get.It.On.The.Ground. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Not sure what you mean by hub. Is this a rear axle? Quote Link to comment
ZombieMachine
Yup. Usually the center bit w/ the 6 lugs has to be pulled off with something akin to a giant steering wheel puller. I havent torn apart a Datsun rear axle before, so im in unfamiliar territory. Since i need to preserve the parts, i'm not going to go bashing and prying. Quote Link to comment
Elkie
That's some mad camber yo. Welcome! Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Datsun rear axle is a semi float, there are 4 bolts behind the brakes the attach the axle to the housing. The only other thing connected would be the e-brake cables but yours is out of the truck. They slide right out once unbolted brakes and all. Quote Link to comment
ZombieMachine
That's cause the drivers front wheel is merely decorative. Behind it lurks a shattered brake assembly. 1 Quote Link to comment
ZombieMachine
Rolling to a full and complete stop, 1" from the curb. For fucks sake.. Quote Link to comment
ZombieMachine
J2DeYe- here is the donor axle... E-brake cable is pulled out. I'm probably missing something obvious. Quote Link to comment
Elkie
Oh I was thinking it happened to rear axle. And a hammer will move the axle out. 1 Quote Link to comment
