oldskoolvws
How much that media blast run? 2 Quote Link to comment
Schoolzin
They charged me $450 for the media blast and the sandable powdercoat primer. There are a some spots that are a little thin that I need to hit myself but I'm pretty happy with it. 2 Quote Link to comment
oldskoolvws
Damn that's worth it! I asked up here and it was roughly $1400 but thems out of business now. 2 Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
Very nice another bitchin truck looks like that will be coming together. So what are the plans with his 521. 2 Quote Link to comment
Schoolzin
Thanks mrbigtanker. I'm not planning on doing anything too crazy. I want to go stock Datsun off-white for body color and then mostly everything else in dark graphite. Definitely like the look of the chevy rally wheels on a static drop. Going to take the frame to be blasted and powdercoated graphite hopefully in the next few weeks. I have somehow accumulated 3 L16s in the last three months so I'll be piecing one together from all the parts I have from the three. My goal is to just be able to run dual 40s reliably. Hopefully it'll be drivable in about a year or so. 2 Quote Link to comment
Schoolzin
Anybody have any suggestions in getting these bushings out? The ones near the crossmember each side. I'm trying to get ready for powdercoating. Thx 2 Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
I believe with a torch but not 100% on that. Check with Wayno or Datsunmike on this via a PM. 1 Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
You can torch them, but then you still need to get the outer race out....if you can't peel & press it out, might have to saw just through it and then peel it out. 2 Quote Link to comment
Schoolzin
Thanks guys. I'm going to pm Mike then. I saw Mike klotz had a video showing the solid bushings he has but I didn't see anything about removal. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Slowly tackling the front suspension and finding out that 44 years in the desert makes for a virtually rust free truck, but damn all the rubber and bushings are shot. I owe Wayno big time for help me not break a few things already...that guy might need to hold a paid position here or something! ;). Here's a few pics of what it took to drive out my torsion spline bolt and a few other goodies. Wayno does not post on Ratsun any more. He will answer PMs. 1 Quote Link to comment

oldskoolvws
To get that bushing out, Kroil the shit out of it and pick yourself up one of these from Harbor Freight. This puller is the best freaking thing in my garage sometimes. 1 Quote Link to comment

oldskoolvws
On HarborFreight but I would check fleabay, vatozone and others. I'm guessing you can find cheaper depending on shipping. This is actually designed for pulling bearings on front wheel drive cars but I use it for everything, like your situation. http://www.harborfreight.com/fwd-front-wheel-bearing-adapters-66829.html 1 Quote Link to comment
oldskoolvws
Could probably make something too fairly easy, but this is just easier. 1 Quote Link to comment
oldskoolvws
$78 free ship. http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-Shipping-FWD-Front-Wheel-Drive-Bearing-Removal-Adapter-Puller-Pulley-Tool-Kit-/171490001073 1 Quote Link to comment

Schoolzin
Had a heck of a time getting the LCA bushings out! Bought the bearing puller and it still wasn't enough believe it or not. Burned out the inner bushing (a week's worth of PB Blaster helped). The outer race still wasn't having it... Finally with a little heat, make that a crapload of heat, and my air chisel...they came out like butter.....glowing, hot as hell, butter. Good times. Quote Link to comment
