My two cents, having been through a project, divorce, etc.
If at all possible, focus on one thing at a time. Get through the divorce, tow your car down to So Cal and store it until you have the time to continue on. I'm saying this because if you rush and throw the project at a local mechanic or machine shop that you're not familiar with, odds are it will cost you more than you planned or they will do shoddy work. Then you'll have two crisis to deal with, the divorce and a screwed up project.
I don't mean to sound pessimistic, sorry. I just think going with a local (not So Cal) shop introduces even more risk than you're having to deal with now. Best of luck.
