floyd17
So, we all know the beloved A series.. the under-powered piece of cast iron that moves our rust-buckets. And for those of us who've owned them, we know they are virtually indestructible. My Old man gives me a hard time for revving to 5k, most times I drive it. Does anyone have any stories of doing this regularly and killing the motor? His reply to my driving tonight... "You're damn lucky it's a datsun." Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If in good shape and filled with oil and not allowed to overheat they can sit at 5K all day. It has FIVE main bearings supporting the crank!!! If anything like the L series the bearings were way oversize on the rods. Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
I revved my A15 to almost 6500 with some port work. It was freakin runnin too! Quote Link to comment

Almost time to change it anyway. Never let it overheat. Don't let the temp gauge run far past half (roughly 5/8ths). And damn, I didn't know about the bearings... Quote Link to comment
josh_t
i hit 6200 and floated valves in mine all the time. overheated it on the daily too. i just ran synthetic and kept an eye on the oil pressure. mine never dropped below 45 at anything over 1500 rpms. my regular shift point was 3.5-4k in my auto. 82m
Search youtube for NZ Ministocks (cant access youtube at work to post a link). A12 powered dirt track cars that 12-16 year olds race. Slap it in 2nd and plant your foot. Great fun. 1 Quote Link to comment
KELMO
I have run my A12 about 400 miles around 4500 to 5500 rpm worked like a charm. Years ago ( and buddy I mean YEARS) I tried to blow up an A12 motor...couldn't do it. 1 Quote Link to comment

BrooklynAnnarkie
Cool story: Before I rebuilt my A14 she was running on only 2 1/2 cylinders but still getting 30mpg. Funny/D'oh story. After I (thought) I finished the rebuild, I discovered a pile of long thin cylindrical pieces of metal. I'd forgotten the pushrods. ::Facepalm:: 1 Quote Link to comment
