RXM9600
I'm looking for a Datsun 2000 and found this within an hour away and would like your input. The ad states the following: 68 Datsun 2000 Roadster convertible. Car does run and drive, solid body 4cyl ford with auto trans. Good title. $1950. obo. Contacted the seller and the car doesn't run and has been sitting out in the open for a while with no soft top. Here are the pictures: Is this worth purchasing? Rust looks extensive(floor is gone) not to mention many parts are missing. Really appreciate it :dblthumb: Quote Link to comment
67_1600
It's getting hard to find a Roadster for less than $2k, especially running and driving, but this is one I'd pass on. With the missing pieces and rust issues, along with the swapped engine and transmission, this one really is just a parts/donor car (or would be for me) - it will take a lot to get it to where you can enjoy it. I'd keep searching and find the nicest car you can in your price range so you can actually get out and drive it. If you're looking for a total basket case as a start then this one might work, but definitely not at $1950. Pure parts cars with no engine or transmission can still be had for under $1k. bananahamuck
Ford pinto 2000 engine is way easier to find parts for than the engine that came in that thing,, but it is no where near worth what they are asking. Parts for roadsters will rape you bank account yo. If it was non running and had original 2000 running gear it might be almost worth that price if engine was not rusted up.. 1 Quote Link to comment

mzdat
I don't like this one. Keep looking. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Keep looking. You can get one that needs no work for 10k if you are patient. To restore that one will cost more than 10k. The 1600s are exactly the same and about $4000 less. Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
Two comments. First, he lied! It does not run. Second, putting a Pinto engine in a rare 2 liter sports car, while it might make finding tuneup parts easier, is a desecration. This roadster needs to go to someone willing to go the whole nine yards and restore it to an authentic configuration, there's not a chance in hell that the original engine and transmission [matching the vehicle tag info] will ever be found, but a "correct" restoration can be done. Yes, it would take more time and money than it would ultimately be resold for, that's why it's a collector car. If not original engine, go the NISMO special camshaft and twin Delorto route and see what almost 150 HP can do to a light weight roadster! Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yeah, if you buy that car, you are not getting a Datsun 2000. The original engine is what makes it different from the same year Datsun 1600. 1 Quote Link to comment
Tomakze
Whoa, pass. I'd buy it for $500, but no more. It's a turd. But for the right price, after a modern nissan engine swap, could be fun. NOT $1900 though! If you REALLY wanted it, maybe $800. Quote Link to comment
