datzenmike
I would expect that any Datsun external regulator should do the job. It's self regulating to charge at 14.5 or so volts. Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
Not if it uses a stock generator. 320s were positive ground. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
 of course... Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Generic 12v positive ground regulator can be found at: Tractor supply companies eBay NAPA Get one for a Delco/Remy for Ford Autolite or example. http://m.ebay.com/sch/i.html?kw=positive+ground+regulator+12v Quote Link to comment
tonalteco
I forgot to mention my 320 has a 1600 engine out of a 521. Seems like the regulator that already had installed was one which has about 6 wires caming out of it (i heard its the one used on the 510's or other datsuns). I wanted to use the original regulator but like it was said above, it wont use the stock generator. I will post a pic and maybe it will make more sense. Thanks in advance Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Any auto parts store can get them $30 Quote Link to comment
Amerikilla
I think i have one still... I just went internally regulated. Problem solved. I'll look around and see if I still have my old one though. Quote Link to comment
KFunk740
You can get an external VR easily at Autozone or anywhere for like $30, but be warned most are crap and will fail. I went through 3 of them I think. Outsourcing electronics manufacturing to China has not gone well. I eventually gave up and just bought a different alternator with internal reg. ggzilla
That eBay one don't work for the 320. Its for an alternator. But it works for the 521 alternator. Quote Link to comment
SS320
That eBay one don't work for the 320. Its for an alternator. But it works for the 521 alternator. Maybe so, but it is a lead to a seller who may have the correct part. It also leads one to the eBay category where the part may be found. You gotta start somewhere. 1 Quote Link to comment
DanielC
In post 6, he said he had a 1600 engine out of a 521. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
And he also mentioned generator. Kinda confusing as to what he actually needs. Quote Link to comment
