Here Is Something Out Of The Ordinary, A15 Inside

This is a amazing Powerplant here from one of my friends in Puerto Rico it is a Daly driver Suzuki LJ20 that uses a non comon A15 Datsun engine, i said non comon cuz in PR that is not the engine of choice whatsoever, and what is very awesome about this is this one is the most competitive Street drag 4x4 on the class in the races in PR. and puts out 424+ WHP out of the little powerplant.

Now 424 HP is a world record. Up til now I'd only heard of 320 HP. This where the need for forged pistons, custom rods and ARP bolts are needed.

Oh yes also stainless valves Toyota 3TC valvesprings brass valve guides presicion 6262 billet turbo sparco intercooler ARP studs everywhere and believe it or not stock rocker arm system and a 472 lift mild cam, there is a lot left in it. future plans are a 1.5 ratio Terr Yella T&D rocker arm system setup Smith Bros chorme moly pushrods and a better cam profile, with the more stable vlavetrain system and the better cam profile it should improve a lot in the HP department.

A-series rocker setup is strong but needs springs replaced by spacers for long-term reliability when over 7000 rpm.

 

Yella Terra has a mixed reputation.

 

Many racers use small block Chevy push rods.

Thing with Yella Terra is that you need to make em work, is not a straight bolt on setup, and as you read here this head is extensivelly modiified with many out of the ordinary parts like toyota valvesprings and stainless valves from othe source with custom bronze valveguides, it got race valvespring keepers that are tall, that makes the valespring keeper to rocker arm clearance easyer to deal with.

Reminds me of my favorite quote from the former Datsun USA mechanic  "It's amazing what you can do to an engine if it only has to last an hour and a half."  He was referring to the race prepped 240 Z engines that the race team competed with.

Got it. Racers commonly fit smaller stem valves for more airflow, which requires custom guides. And A-series heads need every improvement they can get to make big power.

yeap, i guess if there is a DOHC head that could be adapted to this engines that is not a OS Giken or Unobtainable TOMEI/NISMO head!

Very cool! Anymore details on the build? Output HP, machining needed, etc.... Looks like they had to do away with the distributor also to clear the intake...
