Hooligan
I've got a 71' 521 with the stock L16. This may sound petty... I have the emissions setup on my truck (vacuum block on wheel well that vents back to tank. I am trying to minimize under hood clutter. Can this setup be removed? Quote Link to comment
bonvo
you mean the charcoal canester? sure you can remove it but why? i traps the evaporated fuel so the system can use it it improves mileage a little so why remove it Quote Link to comment
Hooligan
More of curiosity.... I am trying to clean the engine bay as much as possible and where the line comes into the fender well just looks like hell. So just curious Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
Not all "emissions hardware" is evil! Some is even helpful. The PCV sure beats the old vent the crankcase directly to ground below the engine prevalent in the pre 60s vehicles [like my old 1955 Chevy Bel Aire and 1951 Hudson]. That's why in old photos you can see a dark stripe down the center of traffic lanes and why you had to drive carefully after a rain storm, Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You don't have a charcoal canister but you do have a thing called a flow guide valve. Excess gas fumes flow into the inside of the engine when parked. When started the PCV valve draws all these fumes into the intake and burns them. Simple and foolproof and has no effect on running at all unless you mess with it. Quote Link to comment
