CmkBaker
Hello I am installing a weber on my 720 and had some questions 1.) Do i need to cap these? 2.) Do i need to run anything off the port on the valve cover? post more later.. but got to go to work now. Quote Link to comment
Dawa
by port do you mean the 'thing' pointing at approx 10:30 (on a clock) that is the valve cover breather, it is supposed to have hose from it going to the base plate of the air filter or something similar, so that the fumes/pressure or what have you from within the valve cover gets ingested by the carb and then burnt up and spit out the exhaust system. some people leave it open or put a filter on there but it was designed the way i just explained. athoose
1. I don't know what those are or what they are for. If no one else fills in the blanks, get a factory service manual and figure out what they do, then decide or let us know. 2. What Dawa said. Did you get the head gasket sorted? Quote Link to comment
Dawa
perhaps some of that shit is smog and other accessories you dont absolutely need. idk oregons smog laws.. bremerton/silverdal, wa didnt require it. cali does but not for 75 or older. what im getting at is if its not against the law, and your car doesnt need it to run, you can get rid of it and make for an easier install and cleaner engine bay. buy yeah, google 720 factory service manual and id it for yourself Quote Link to comment
CmkBaker
sweet i'll get a little filter for it then. I have talk to a few people around here who have installed a Weber and have got it to pass emissions On the first picture i know the cap? on the right is for the anti backfiring mechanism but the other one i haven't a clue. I was wrong about the whole head gasket idea. my temp never gets high and my radiator keeps coolant so who knows? I will further check my haynes manual. Hey Dawa how you like your GSXR? I ran the breather hose from the valve cover into the base of the Weber aircleaner. The Weber carb plate had a knockout to route this hose. I used the stock breather hose and it works fine. I'm across the river from you. No Emissions for us in Washington. If you need the adapter plate for the Z-24 I have one I don't need as my Z-22 needed a different adapter. Quote Link to comment
Dawa
from my understanding, it is better to run the valve breather to the carb rather than breathing it to atmosphere (for a dd). if mike or someone similar reads this theyll chime in. yeah i had a 750. i looooved that thing. i gave up cars completely while i had it. i (responsibily) learned on it and was ready to move on to a 1000. then i got ran over. ill eventually get a 1000 in a few years though Quote Link to comment
CmkBaker
Yeah Dawa bikes are sick. i got ran over myself, it sucks. so this is the progress i made today. started taking the old carb off. the bolt on the right was a pain to get at. I prevailed:) know i got to get those studs out. does anyone know if i should delete this hose? it runs to the BPT and ERG. are they beneficial to keep? Quote Link to comment
CmkBaker
moven right along. i got the throttle from the Hitachi mounted on the web. there was to much slack to i added a spacer over all looks okay. Going to wait for my fuel pressure regulator to come in the mail before i fire it up to fire it up. Quote Link to comment
CmkBaker
well every thing is all set up now but it is having trouble idling. Ill post a video of it later today Quote Link to comment
Dawa
i see youre running the stock mechanical fuel pump, with that stock pump you shouldnt need a fuel pressure regulator as the pressure is naturally low(between 3-5 psi) for the stock carb, which is exactly what a weber wants (approx 4ish psi) Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
Even moreso, the fuel return line seems to be present, so even less reason to have a regulator. I've never needed them, as long as the return line was functioning. Or I was using a L16/L18 type pump which is much smaller than the stock L20B pump. Quote Link to comment
