Close.. its a Cedric 31 wagon tailgate badge  has a keyhole under the flap... Cedric wagons were sold in Canada in 64-65.

the Avatar badge is from the 1937 Nissan Model 70  AKA the Nissan Graham Paige Crusader

but... that goes against everything we know aboot the Datsun brand! That is was started to avoid ant-Nipponese sentiments post WWII.

Nissan was always Datsun for cars in Japan. They only Nissan branded automobiles were trucks... Datsun didnt hit the States until something like 1960 so its possible that that badge is from Japan where Datsun had already existed for ~20 years.

Your statement is true though as Nissan Corporate thought that 'Datsun' wouldnt be as bad of a brand name as 'Nissan' after WWII. Both brands already excited prior to the war though.

Actually... Nissan had the Model 70 car, the model 80 truck and the the model 90 Bus/ large van as Nissan branded product pre-WW2. all were based on Graham paige tooling, dies, and castings bought from Graham Paige when they shut down a factory...  the Truck and bus had bodies designed by Nissan, but the running gear was G-P.   William R. Gorham, Nissans head engineer, helped arrange the purchase.

Post war Datsuns were all based on the prewar Chassis for the Datsun type 35-37 Car and T10 truck...  until they decided to copy the Crosley minicar and got a cease and desist order... they  then went to Austin , properly licensed the rights to the A40 and A50... all early 1960's non Prince line cars are based on the Austin tech.  the first new Nissan branded car post war was the H30 Cedric in 1960.

I say Merlin had answered so didn't bother before now. It on all 710 sedans. I have several. Chrome plastic.

.

That is one sweet rear end Mike! I actually took this 710 badge and held it to the front grill of the 510 right down the two center bars. Looked pretty neat, but I couldn't get far enough away to really judge it since I was holding it. Time to find some sticky tape.
