oldgasman
im trying to build my 510 I got it in pieces..it has a 120mph speedo and a tac is that OG,...or is it off something else??? Quote Link to comment
D52E
I believe the tach was a dealer accessory for 1970 to 1973 cars. Im not sure if any PL510s came with a factory tach except for the 510 SSS coupe. Quote Link to comment
Ratwagon1600
FWIW, the only Aussie ones which had the factory fitted tach were the SSS510. Quote Link to comment
TheShagginWagon
Correct. 68 and 69 510's had a very different dash and guage set up. in the 70-73 ones You could get a tachometer or a clock, or like most people have just idiot lights. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Factory option from Oct '69. Standard equipment on SSS cars. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
I don't think we got the SSS it was a totally JDM car like the coupe. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Ha ha ha.... it's just a 510. Even though we'd like to think it's special........... guess what? it is!!! 1 Quote Link to comment
KlassicMotion
Mike knows better than me, but I was under the impression the you could order the SSS option here.... No? There seems to be a lot of vintage 219 heads, SSS badges, and SU carbs here to not have been an option here. Even in Kansas there are a bunch of that old SSS stuff around for it not to have been an option. Quote Link to comment
q-tip
70-73 could be had with a tach, orange or white needle, if its a factory one it will be on the right side and match the rest of the gauges. Quote Link to comment
SupDoc
I don't think we got the SSS it was a totally JDM car like the coupe. So, when people refer to "JDM," they're talking about stuff that was only sold in Japan? Quote Link to comment
KlassicMotion
JDM = Japanese Domestic Market Quote Link to comment
D52E
More info from the "510 Bible" Quote Link to comment

Even in Kansas there are a bunch of that old SSS stuff around for it not to have been an option. . The SSS option included 219 head, flattop pistons, modified dizzy, tach and dress up items like steering wheel, badges. In the 80s it was cheaper to buy and instal a low mileage import motor from Japan than to rebuild one. Garages would just strip off the SUs and manifolds and put the owner's intake and carbs back on the new block. I have a set, and the choke cables have been cut.... probably by the wrecking yard in Japan that sold the motor. So, when people refer to "JDM," they're talking about stuff that was only sold in Japan? . Yes Quote Link to comment
q-tip
JDM = Japanese Domestic Market I had a buddy that thought it stood for "Japanese Drift Machine" it was funny enough that I just let him keep thinking that for a few years Quote Link to comment

qwik510
Lots of people used to buy them from the dealer and install them on their 510s. They are becoming more scarce these days. The one pictured above has the speedo with the trip meter. 1 Quote Link to comment
Just Joel
^^^ this... I have complete clusters with both tachs and trip meters in orange and white needles ;) 1 Quote Link to comment
SK8R SURFR 510
Were the Tachs with white needles the ones in the SSS models? Just wondering the history on the white vs. red needle tachs. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The SSS may have had them standard equipment but for the 510s, it was an option. I can look up the white/orange needle when I get home. Quote Link to comment
