Spare parts=new project

Recommended Posts

So, recently I've moved to a new town to run the shop of a new dealership. Unfortunately this means that I am 300 miles away from my track car 240z. A couple years ago I changed directions on the powertrain for the race car...now has rb power! This means I have a ton of L28 crap lying around, just need a shell to fill.

Woke up on a Sunday morning and saw a CL add for a beater, locked up '75 s30. Checked it out and towed it home for $450. I decided to do this one project quickly and on the cheap.

Here is the rust bucket when it came home.

First was yanking the sorry motor and installing my flat top F54-P79, 5 speed, old header, and Mikuni 40's. Most of the interior came out and was replaced with stuff I had in storage.

Without the diving board bumpers and a couple other things, the car had a rally stance.

After several beers, I have a friend free reign to paint the underside of the hood.

Rebuilt the carbs on the dining table. Easy when you're single.

Time to install heavy, cut Chevette springs to address the height. Also installed vented rotors, 4 piston calipers, rebuilt the rear cylinders, powdercoated valve cover, bigger brake mc, clutch mc, and front fascia. Oh and the 15x8.25 shoes.

Fixed the clock...still doesn't technically work, but it's easier to look at.

Now with mirrors.

Also fixed a bunch of wear items and made it a bit more easy to drive for long periods of time. I've already been able to take it on a couple 600+ mile road trips. Even went from 3000' of elevation to about 11,000 and the carbs still performed (barely). Took about two weeks and less than $2,000 to get it "done". Soon I'll install a better cam and shaved p79 to give it a little more bite.

Thanks for looking

P.S. her name is Victoria. The track car is Jessica.

Also a boring video of a friend and I trying out our new camera mounts. This was the first trip I had taken in the car. Before some bugs were worked out like shitty bushings, poorly adjusted clutch mc rod and so on. car stuck like glue, you can hear the E30 start to break traction but not this one. Carbs were tuned @ 3000',,, video starts @ 7000 and goes up to 11,000'. All excuses aside, the driver sucks.

Gotta readjust the valves and dial in a bit more timing, but so far so good. Will peg the tach past 8k now but used to cut out before 7. Been fun so far.
