hobbes_the_cat
We're back in action! Popped the lash pad back in. Quiet and smooth, decent power for an L16, but she smokes. Not sure if I will address that now or later. I think I'm going to focus on getting the body looking decent first. Quote Link to comment
izzo
Def get that rust before it gets worse. With it running its incentive to get it done since you can drive it at least. Easier to move around too lol Quote Link to comment
hobbes_the_cat
So all the door hinges were messed up on this thing. The main part of the hinges are tight but the spring loaded arms that hold the door open were either broken or the pins were sheared off. I had to to scavenge the broken arms and missing springs but was coming up empty on the pins. I went to the hardware store to see what they had and noticed that regular 3 1/2" hinge pins for doors in your house have a similar sized head and shank. I used a caliper to measure the diameter and used a grinder and a file to cut the shank down to size and used a hacksaw to cut down the length. Used a vice to press em in and done! They are holding fine and once painted, no one will be able to tell the difference. Quote Link to comment
yellow510
nice read. good work on getting this up to snuff. i've seen worse body work before, but definitely leaves a lot to be desired. Quote Link to comment

Going to try to get a muffler and new alt. installed this weekend, then she'll be ready to drive home. I'll include a good drivers door shell and a passenger fender. Price will be $4000 OBO Drop me a line if you're interested. I'll make a real for sale ad later. Quote Link to comment
Tristin
I thought this was a keeper Jeffie? Quote Link to comment
hobbes_the_cat
Yeah I had some plans for it at first but I decided I would offer it up as a blank canvas. If it doesn't sell, I'll mess around with it but this way someone can get a fresh, original car to play with and not worry about reversing my mods if they don't like em. Quote Link to comment
Tristin
Well, good luck with the sale. Hope it finds a good home either way. If its not gone by the 22nd, you should bring it down to A&W. Quote Link to comment
hobbes_the_cat
Just put in a new alternator and voltage regulator. Both old stock and made in Japan. 14.2 volts when running, not bad for all original 1968 wiring. :w00t: 1 Quote Link to comment
Tristin
Man, I would so love to pick this thing up. Youre even right down the road (even closer now that I moved to Bremerton)... Quote Link to comment

gypsy punk
^^^ I'm still lookin for a similar gas cap to pirate two little pieces from and no one around here has a window crank so I'm still lookin. Tristin: I'm flexible on the price... What's the difference between the 68 window cranks? Just that they are all silver. No black center cap? Because I he some on my wagon on the back doors that the buddy I got them from said he thought they came off a 68 or 69 Quote Link to comment
hobbes_the_cat
The 68 window cranks are a totally different shape than the 69-72. They are all chrome with a small black plastic knob. Quote Link to comment
hobbes_the_cat
Well granny found a new home tonight. I got a call right after putting a set of Z wheels on it. It's headed down to Lakewood now. I hope the new owner has fun with it! 1 Quote Link to comment
