StinkyTurbo
I have an entire 1980 200sx front brake/suspension setup and Im wondering if its the same as installing 280ZX suspension? As in, remove 200sx spring, remove bottom perch, grind off excess metal, install bottom perch, spring from 510 strut, use collar clamp, cut 2 coils off 510 spring, use 240sx camber plate. amiright? 1 Quote Link to comment
StinkyTurbo
http://community.ratsun.net/topic/6800-portland-510/?p=106751 Its been done before, member heirfaus had it on his 510, but he hasn't been here since 2011. Quote Link to comment
510T
Non vented rotor is no bueno, but if you already have it... I'd keep looking for ZX or RWD Maxima struts. Or s12 200sx or Z31 or M30. Quote Link to comment
StinkyTurbo
I'm in too deep, besides, you west coast guys are privileged. I've never seen a ZX or a Maxima on the street ever. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
amiright? Yes. Pretty much anything but a 240Z/280Z is the same formula. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
I've never seen a ZX or a Maxima on the street ever. What about an Infiniti M30? Ever see those in the junkyard? Quote Link to comment
StinkyTurbo
No, seriously. I live in the Northeast, cars dont make it that long out here and a junkyard won't carry parts for a car that few people own. Quote Link to comment
510T
M30 has the most potential for non fabricated, easily sourced factory brake upgrades (z32 caliper bolts on). Slip on rotors. You can drill the hubs for 5 lug or get Z32 rotors drilled to 4 lug. They are worth the hunt in my opinion. Like S12 though the steering arm recess is bigger requiring special RCA's. 510T
The 510 ball joint stays bolted to the 510 steering arm that does bolt to the M30 strut. You just need to adapt the smaller diameter 510 steering arm to the larger M30 size though with either a machined ring or bump steer spacer for a proper fit. Quote Link to comment

510T
i think doctor audio has some in the classifieds Those look like regular 510/zx ones with a 40mm top. For s12/m30 you need a 54mm top. Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
for the m30 you need a 54mm top opening? could i just get the ones i have machined or do you think there wouldnt be enough meat left? Quote Link to comment
510T
If you want to use your existing spacers with S12 or M30 struts you should have a spacer ring made to make up the difference, like this: I've fitted s12 struts onto my 810, the issues i've had are: Must use a spacer to make up for the difference. Mine were 54mm OD 40mm ID and 15mm thick Quote Link to comment

TENDRIL
maybe he can do a how-to? or i can when i do it . Quote Link to comment
Damien4884
I had the shims made up, then sectioned the struts to take mk 1 vw golf (rabbit?) Inserts so it's all sat together and looks the part but not driven it yet (converting rear to irs, using s12 rear end). I would suggest a decent bevel on ID as it eases location I did mine with a deburring tool after messing for ages. Thanks! I needed those specs. I knew they would help someone!!! dude
If I was to get rca's made for the M30s how thick would you suggest? Quote Link to comment
